Yep, but thats what swinging for the fences is. If it doesn't work then start over.

I'm fairly certain, that if Eichel is traded before his NMC/NTC clauses kick in, that similarly to the Shea Weber/PK Subban trade, that the receiving club does not have to honor the clauses.
That makes Eichel more valuable. As an asset, he would be exceptionally more liquid in the many years ahead.

That is incorrect as per the terms of the new CBA.

In addition, if you are acquiring a player with the foresight of a future trade, then just don’t.

Yes and No. General managers discuss what the value of every contract is and what it could be worth in trade. Then they overpay and wonder what went wrong. Realistically, how fun would it be without the mistakes. Pisses me off to no end but its good to feel something.

There is no such thing as a one man show in Pro hockey.

Gotcha. How did the CBA terms change, to accommodate the special clauses part of a PHC?

If there weren't question marks about his health, I would agree, but if the worst case scenario happens, you get stuck with a $10 million anchor. Tough to start over if that happens. Especially if you are giving up 1st round picks for him.

You must be very young. The Flames have a bunch of players who did far more than Eichel - who has been more hype than production in his career. He has played in three all star games, but that is mostly because he was the best player on a bad team who needed representation. His best season saw 82 points scored.

Here are some:
 NHL Hall of Famers:
Grant Fuhr
Doug Gilmour
Phil Housley
Brett Hull
Al MacInnis
Sergei Makarov
Lanny McDonald
Joe Mullen
Joe Nieuwendyk

Retired Flames Numbers
Lanny McDonald
Jarome Iginla
Mike Vernon

Others who have accomplished far more:
Theo Fleury
Mikka Kiprusoff
Gary Roberts
Martin St. Louis
Jaromir Jagr
Mark Giordano.

There are certainly others who could be considered better players by the time Eichel's career is up.

His opinion is a little different than yours. Apparently he speaks to a bunch of people around the league as well.

But it doesn't make him right. Just shows there are different opinions about players everywhere. Maybe some GM's fall into the category that think he still brings value as a guy that can put up 30-30 in the right environment.
