You questioned him being a shut down defenseman. ---> Many showed you stats that he was.
You then said he wasn't because McDavid scored often against Calgary.---> He broke down icetime against Edmonton and success rates and he was great.
Now you're saying he didn't play against McDavid enough and questioning those that are suggesting this isn't going well for you?
OK ...

The Flames appear to be really focused on improving their stock with Russian players. There definitely seems to be a trend both at the draft and in free agency. I think it is smart.

So....for the guys talking smack about Zadorov.
Watch the F in video.
Z talks the whole game to the bench. I love that.
It's called accountability.
Hold your teammates accountable, boost morale, play hard , hot people and ####iing engage in some positivity FFS.
I love we have a player that wants to do this. Instead of skating back to the bench and sulking and feeling sorry for yourself f####ing do something positive.
Nobody wants to be around dead serious , sulking and pouting BS.
Glad this guys a Flame.

Good! Maybe Rushan Rafikov can finally attend a camp! (Kind of serious - I liked that pick and thought he would end up as a player).

The Flames have the best defensive D-man in at least the conference and he is only out against McDavid nominally more than Gio. As far as the match-up are concerned Tanev only was matched against McDavid at 54 - 46 to Gio.
I guess the Flames coaches were outcoached and line matched or just didn't see the need to have Tanev out against McDavid.
When the Jets actually shut McDavid down
Morrissey was on the ice with McDavid
Game 1 59% of the time Edmonton home team
Game 2 60% of the time Edmonton home team
Game 3 91% of the time Winnipeg home Team
Game 4 74% of the time Winnipeg home Team
Chiarot against Matthews
Game 5 Leafs up 3-1 74%
Game 6 75%
Game 7 75%
That is what a team does when it has a shut down defenseman
True the Flames did not play any games as important as these games against Edmonton but they should have been trying to get the Tanev match ups at more than 54 %
Calgary against McDavid
game 1 Tanev 74% W 6-4
game 2 Tanev 56% Hannifin 94% L 2-1
Game 3 tanev 35% L 1-7
Game 4 Tanev 51% L 2-3
Game 5 Tanev 57% W 4-3
Game 6 Tanev 73% L 3-7
Game 7 Tanev 29 % L 2-3
Game 8 Gio 91 % Tanev 78 % W 5-0
Game 9 Gio-Tanev 41% W 4-3
Game 10 Gio-Tanev 61% L 1-4
Flames were not afraid of sending Tanev out against McDavid but it was not the overall game play based on having a shut down d-man.

If you were to compare regular season against regular season, that would be more relevant to your point, not to mention interesting insight. Playoffs is a whole different game.

It's also going to help when they trade for Jack Eichelov

Darryl's been watching too much Slap Shot over the holidays.
I'm a caveman though so I like it!

All good, but doesn't say anything about how good a player he actually is on the ice.
You basically described Lucic. We all love Lucic. But he's not a very good player anymore.

Lucic is still a pretty good player. Just not a $5M player.

He was excellent his last season in Vancouver, and good the season before that. He was on the rise, not in decline, prior to coming to Calgary.

He’s better than we thought, and way better than Neal.
But he’s a below average NHL player.
And I’m happy he’s on the team, but he’d look better as a 4th line player.
