Had a solid season in Winnipeg and gets some term in Boston. Wouldn't have minded us picking him up given his history with Sutter. Good for him. Good AAV for Boston too.

That's a ton of money for Bort (who I have come around to liking).

He was surprisingly good in Winnipeg but it's worth noting his play dropped off in the 2nd half of the season. Three years is probably one too many for this player.

Then be prepared to be upset. If Zadorov was signing for that, no way would Chicago traded him

Zadorov can do everything Forbert can but also has upside. Z has all the tools to be a dominant two way defenseman, it’s just a question of can he develop into it.

Chara didn’t really blossom until age 27, which is what Zadorov is now. I’m not saying Zadorov can become as good as Chara but he certainly has the physical tools. He can skate, he can shoot, he’s mean, he’s tough, he can read and process plays which allow him to throw big hits. Now he’s got Sutter to show him the ropes and the finer details of defending.

This could be a huge deal for the Flames.

I'm having a hard time reconciling this view with others that call him a black hole offensively. I hope you're right about his skills

It's funny how opinions vary on players. Forbort surprised me early in the season when he looked Norris level against the Flames (I'm beginning to think that had more to do with how terrible the Flames were) last year but I do recall reading that his play dropped off noticeably in the 2nd half of the season when the Jets slumped. Dom Luszczyszn called this one of the worst signings of the first day in free agency;

Quote:
Derek Forbort: The Jets defence was terrible last year and Forbort was part of the problem. It’s easy to look at his ice-time and say “well, the coach trusted him”, but in Winnipeg it’s not like there was much competition. He can suppress chances decently and may be an asset for Boston in that regard in a more sheltered role, but it comes at a cost on offence where he provides next to nothing. To be honest, I want to see him play on a pair with Brandon Carlo just to see the offensive zone implode. That would be worth $3 million to me.
Kind of sounds a little like Zadorov lol.

Ludicrous overpayment. Forbort is terrible.
