So far the only significant thing the Flames have done was forced upon them by Seattle.
This has all the makings of a Jack Eichel pursuit ending with “we had discussions, but ultimately the price just didn’t make sense for us” followed by a 14th overall selection. The Calgary Flames special.

Sean is a goal scorer and he's been injured, I'll wager other GMs have tried to get him for cheap. I'm not against trading our top players but a lot of deals they would be the best player in the trade.
The Flames seem to be restocking prospects and picks again so that's a good thing. I get we have to improve but you still want to get the most for your own players otherwise you'll set the team back 5 years or more.

Who cares what other poorly managed teams are doing? The only thing that matters is whether the Flames are good enough to win now or bad enough to earn a pick that might help them win in the future.
And thus far, the answer is no. They’re the same middle of the pack team they always are, with gaping holes at several key positions and a prospect cupboard that is the envy of no one. Unacceptable.

Was in response to Bubbsy's post, which came right after the Barrie news (I think).
The only teams having a good offseasons so far (imo) in terms of improving their roster is St. Louis with Buchnevich and, to a lesser extent, Florida with Reinhart.
Every other significant trade has been pure overpayments in which the team selling the player is absolutely fleecing the other team (Jones, Ristolainen, Keith, OEL, etc..)
Let's see what Tre does. Maybe he has a poor offseason, maybe he has a great one. Still early

There is just no way the flames are inactive tomorrow. It’s the last scenario I foresee playing out.

May not be inactive...but successful? Different story.
The silence out of the Flames so far is concerning to me. Beats me what's going on in there, but I'd have expected at least a JG extension by now at a minimum (or an announcement that it's not happening...or is that just...gonna happen by default tomorrow with ...nothing again).
"We were in on X, but it just didn't go our way. We were in on Y but someone else snagged him."
If that happens...toast BT. I can't stand another year of this crap.

I predict things will happen, and the complainers will complain. I actually can’t imagine a single scenario that people wouldn’t complain about, so tomorrow should be fun.

I'd like to formally complain about this post. Any complaints? Or do I have to wait until tomorrow?

Two GMs, both running teams mired in mediocrity that had disappointing seasons, were really under the gun this offseason to make big changes: Chuck Fletcher and Treliving. Whatever you think of the deals, Fletcher stepped up to the plate and took a big swing. Hard to understand Treliving’s rationale if he sticks with the status quo.

This is true, but tomorrow very well could be bad.

Yes. This is true. Fletcher got after it.

Landing the “big fish” in free agency is a sucker’s game, unless there is a truly exceptional case that comes around once in a generation like Tavares. Brad likes to “win” sweepstakes for players like Neal and Brouwer who were both not recognized as true difference makers and who were both bought out of those same deals.
Yes, there is a perfectly valid reason for people to bitch if the flames “win” the Blake Coleman sweepstakes and take their victory lap. It almost certainly ends in the exact same way.

I can think of several posters who ought to print this out and tape it to their bathroom mirror.
That way, when they wake up in the morning and brush their teeth, or tooth, they can ask themselves ‘what am I going to whine about today on CP, and does it make any sense?’

Don’t you see all these bad moves Edmonton, Philly, Chicago, and Vancouver are making.
No idea why the Flames are not in on some of these bad moves.

Duh. Treliving getting his walking papers tomorrow would make a whole bunch of posters on this board ecstatic. Short of that, probably nothing, which is annoying since Treliving is NOT getting fired between now and 2022.

A sincere commitment to capitalize on expiring assets and rebuild around a new core.
Since we’re not going to get that, might as well break the bank for Eichel. If that doesn’t work (and it won’t), turn the phone off and wait for the players to force a rebuild onto you.
