Been waiting for this, it just seemed inevitable. We need a defenseman, and Edler fits the bill (I guess), but he isn't the guy I want - he isn't even on the top half of the list.

There appeared to be a rather steep drop off in play for Edler last season, so I hope it is inexpensive. 3 years is probably too many no matter what but let's see what the damage is.

Been rumored to be interested in Edler for a while. If it’s three years, the per year is hopefully around 2-2.5 million. I’d much rather we just get him for one year though obviously.

Their entire D was a ####show, so it's really hard to gauge any one of them in isolation.

I would think that playing in our top 4 with Hanifin, Andersson and Tanev, would solidify and settle things for him

Alex Edler, headed to free agency, is a strong two-way veteran left-handed defenceman who had a nice bounceback year in real difficult minutes. Age is obviously an issue but I doubt he breaks the bank or gets much term. #Canucks

Foot speed is obviously an issue with him but he still managed to prevent scoring chances against at a solid enough rate despite facing big competition.

I'm definitely not as opposed to signing Edler as some on here provided that it is a relatively inexpensive contract that leaves room for help up front and a good backup goalie.

Weird assumption to make the day before free agency even begins.

Lots of time left, and everything points to the team not being content with returning with the same team. Whether they can accomplish what they want to (probably not) remains to be seen.

This is the type of acquisition they need to make for the defense if they want to improve the top 6 forward position but they have to keep the AAV reasonable.
