Assume this takes them out of the running for Eichel

I kind of happy he re-signed.
Was worried we'd go out and overpay him on Wednesday.

You’d think so, but it’s Vegas and they seem to be able to get whoever they want and swindle other teams into bailing them out.

Vegas can still move salary. I wouldn't take them out of the Eichel race yet.
They could also handle the year or half year they'd be without Eichel too what with the majority of their roster still intact, even after moving money.

Another good UFA for the Flames gone. Would’ve been a good Gio replacement for the time being.

This is true, if they moved MAF and Marchessault/Tuch/Smith gets them there.

I was hoping for Martinez, but wouldn't have wanted to give him 5mil/yr, so I guess, yay?

I think it was always going to be Edler or maybe Suter for us. Less cap and term just a veteran stop gap for the couple years left that Gio would've given us.

I think that all depends if Valimaki is involved in any Eichel deal.

If Valimaki stays, I think the Flames go for Edler on a short deal.

If he is part of the Eichel deal, Flames will sign or trade for a player with a longer term, like Schmidt (make Canucks retain) or Ryan Murray, Zadorov or De Haan.

I want someone younger than Martinez. I think Hanifin should be given a shot with Tanev as the top pairing and they can either try to develop Valimaki Andersson as the second pairing in season, or get a mid-career guy, not a 30+ guy.

If they do this, they have very little money to sign Nolan Patrick. They'll have to trade us Tuch for a second rounder. The only solution.

Why do you hate scoring from the defense?
