I said this earlier, but something like:
Tkachuk + Protected 2022 1st + one of Pelletier/Zary/Valimaki/Dube + 2nd or a prospect like Petterson
It's a lot, but I think this is closer to what they're looking for. Even if Tkachuk has no interest in signing long-term with Buffalo they can flip him to somewhere like STL for even more futures.
If Tre landed Eichel without giving up Tkachuk I would be amazed. Hopefully Buffalo caves and decides to lower their price before his NMC kicks in

This is the only realistic proposal I see. Something like this is likely what it takes.
Eichel, Johnny, Lindholm, Monahan, Mangiapane, Backlund left. Probably not much money to spend on a good dman. I still don't like the look of that roster that much.
I'm back to trading these guys for futures and rebuilding.

Maybe he will just go for another hamonic?
I don’t think treliving would be afraid to trade his first next year and I bet he would trade not lottery protected too.

This franchise has never had the kind of #1 centre you're crying for. And you know what? If the Flames do get Eichel, they still will never have had the kind of #1 centre you're crying for.

Well we sure as hell aren’t drafting one because this franchise hates rebuilding like poison. Players like Eichel don’t become available very often, and when they do you can usually count on them ending up somewhere like New York or Vegas.

Go find a franchise that loves rebuilding and cheer for them. I'll wait here while you're looking.

Some people can’t figure out why every year we draft wingers. Top end centers are usually gone by 12th pick. So it’s top end winger or tier 2 centers.
Eichel is a must add unless we make a run at wright

“This fan base…”
I think some of you think your opinions are more representative of the fan base, especially the one that exists out of a select group of people located within the select group of people of Calgary Puck, than they actually are.

The Flames drafted a centre in the first round just last year, and as for this year, Matt Coronato plays all three forward positions. That makes it especially tough to figure out why ‘every year we draft wingers’.

Treliving has nothing to loose here. He goes big game hunting Flames make noise and turn the ship around the next few years, or he’s out of a job in a year and works for another team. The new Gm deals with the potential mess he leaves.
It’s a rinse repeat cycle in any sports.

Eichel is #1 overall almost any draft and is 24...you could tank for a decade and not get an Eichel

The most I'd do is Tkachuk + 2022 1st + Valimaki, and that's being generous. I'm not high on Valimaki as much anymore. We need an experienced D like Gio.
We can sign a vet D like Martinez or Edler for the middle pairing and use a rotation of Kylington/Mackey/Stone in the 5/6/7 spots.
EDIT: Need to also move Monahan unless you're moving Lindolm or Monahan to RW.

Or you could get a younger one on an entry level deal with no health issues next year.
It's a gamble. Will Eichel make the Flames good enough to be a threat to make the playoffs? Does he turn then into a contender? Do his health issues prevent him from ever being the player her was? Could the Flames be bad enough to get first overall(or the best chance at it)? Would Eichel be happy in Calgary or sulk and demand a trade?

The Sabres have stated the value that they would like, but that never really turns out to be the makeup of what a trade is. If they trade Eichel, they will have centre depth of Cozens and Middelstadt, and I'm not sure if they are ready to hand the reins to those two, or have Cody Eakin as the #1 centre for a season. If Monahan becomes extraneous with the acquisition of Eichel, he is not exactly over the hill at 26 years old.
Tkachuk and Monahan is good value for young players who can play now and in the future. Cap space is really not an issue for the Sabres for the next couple of years. Could Minnesota or Anaheim really beat that as a core offer?

I'll be able to forgive them for trying if it doesn't work out.
Going and getting that covered centerpiece of a contending team shows the fanbase that they cared enough to try.
What creates a bitter fanbase is sitting on a core whose best parts don't cut it and trying to sell us on this bs idea that the answers are in the room, and watching it slowly degrade over time.

You could quit your job and buy lottery tickets but its unlikely you will win
chances of being worse than Arizona ect. are slim to none...and even then there is a greater than 80% chance you don't draft first even if you are dead last

A winning team needs more than one game changer on the roster imo. For years now we have had Johnny on certain nights and that's pretty much it with the odd big game from the other supporting cast. Eichel is another game changer to help out on most nights. I feel like most of the people down playing him haven't watched this kid (yes he's still a kid) closely enough. For me the only risk is his health, and that is a risk I'll admit it. However if he is healthy he is easily worth two of anyone on our roster 3/4 of the time. If Brad can get him with one big piece, another middling piece and some total gamble/unknown draft picks the upside with a potentially healthy Eichel can't be overstated. These opportunities come up once in almost never.
I am totally on board with making a deal that could really move the franchise forward long before tanking and holding onto hope by the seat of my pants that it works out in 5 to 6 years. It would be as bold of a decision as deciding to tear the team down and rebuild, but from my seat would be a vastly more interesting one.
