Totally agree. I just think it doesn't look good on Tre if they have to go the rebuild route. Even if they can't add Eichel Tre will probably look for answers elsewhere. Was thinking more in terms of his job, it's gut check time, and he has some tough decisions.

You need an Eichel to lead you to the fourth round? How about Eichel playing a single playoff game for the first time in his career? JHC this guy is over-rated. If he was half the player some of the people on this forum were building him up to be the Sabres would have a number of Stanley Cup banners hanging from the rafters, not drafting 1st overall for the second time since he became a Sabre. Eichel is not the answer to anything for the Flames.

Iggy had precisely as much success in the playoffs as Eichel before he didn’t.

You need elite players to play in round 4 - Eichel is an elite player.

If they’re going to insist on moving forward with most of this core, they might as well go all in and get the best available elite player we can find.

Here is what Pagnotta posted in his blog

“ The Sabres want at least four pieces for Eichel. That hasn’t changed. And a 2022 first-round pick is something they covet in a package that includes at least one top prospect and two young, NHL-proven players.

I think Calgary, Los Angeles, Anaheim and Vegas have continued to go back and forth. I’m not convinced the New York Rangers are paying the price, and I don’t think Minnesota wants to, either. Florida and Boston poked around, along with other teams.”

Could the Flames get away with Dube, Valimaki, 1st and one of Pelletier/Zary/Cornato????

So you wouldn't want McDavid either?

I just think Tkachuk has to be in the deal to have a chance, I can't see Buffalo saying yes to that.

I said this earlier, but something like:
Tkachuk + Protected 2022 1st + one of Pelletier/Zary/Valimaki/Dube + 2nd or a prospect like Petterson

It's a lot, but I think this is closer to what they're looking for. Even if Tkachuk has no interest in signing long-term with Buffalo they can flip him to somewhere like STL for even more futures.

If Tre landed Eichel without giving up Tkachuk I would be amazed. Hopefully Buffalo caves and decides to lower their price before his NMC kicks in

Man Dube + Valimaki + Pelletier + 1st is something this team could afford and would put us in a position to recoup some of the loss of assets there either in a Monahan trade or a Tkachuk trade depending on which direction they would want to go. Monahan to minny for a Dumba package? Or Tkachuk to St.Louis for a Tarasenko+Kyrou package?? It would give the flames a ton of options if we managed to hang on to the big names in an Eichel deal.

I’m not fond of Treliving but thank god he would never do 95% of the crazy trades proposed in this forum.

3 team trade:

STL gets Tkachuk
CGY gets Eichel Thomas and stl 2nd 22
But gets dube valimaki stl and cgy first in 22

Flames trade Tkachuk for Thomas first and a 2nd in 22

Then trade Dube Valimaki and the 2 first for Eichel

Flames might be able to get more out of stl but if we don’t want tarasenko we probably getting less

If you consider the fact that a Tkachuk type player would help them win more games than they would win otherwise it might make more sense to Buffalo to bring in younger talent like Dube and Valimaki who are good young talent but might not individually take over a game like a Tkachuk could. Buffalo might just be looking to tank for the bottom the next few years with the generational talents coming up.

Tre would never give up futures and 1st for an iffy player health wise. Too much risk for that type of deal.

Can't stop the fantasy trade scenarios now. They wanna buy a broken bridge with their life savings.

Buchnevich going to STL instead of CGY at that price grinds my gears. That's a frugal investment. Even with a 5 to 6 million a year contract

Considering Eichel is broken and expensive, Tkachuk + 2nd is the most I would do.

Any trade Calgary made for Eichel would have to include salary going to Buffalo.

I’m sure Tre is pitching a package that includes Monahan.
