Can't tinker with the roster until he knows what we will be paying Landeskog.

Didn’t a lot of people want to tank for the 22 draft?

You want to handcuff the team for almost decade, for a band-aid now?

We’d need to dump a lot of players to compete with Arizona, Buffalo, Detroit, and Columbus.

It seems to be overlooked that someone needs to want our core in a trade. You need two to tango.
If the core pieces we’re talking about moving for a shake up are Monahan, Tkachuk or Gaudreau I can think of 2/3s of the games last season where I wondered if they were even in the lineup. Especially with the first two.
I’m guessing teams around the league probably noticed the same thing. Why in the world would they want to give up impact players for invisible players.
What I’m getting at is I bet the Flames have been trying to get rid of Monahan for at least a year with no takers. If they’ve been trying to unload the other two I’m betting the return isn’t worth it. Sutter doesn’t seem to think the issue on the team is talent and I agree with him. He was brought in to motivate and change the culture.
My gut feel is there probably isn’t going to be a shakeup outside of replacing Gio with a free agent and work to bring in more competitive players in the bottom 6 forwards. Backup goalie as well with some experience.

Treliving might be going big game hunting in free agency. Landeskog, Saad, Barrie, Edler, Etc.

This isn't tanking. The Coyotes, Sabres, Blue Jackets... That's tanking. The Flames will be drafting right in that 10-15 wheelhouse again.

If you want to tank fine, but then we should be offloading Markstrom and Hanifin at these ridiculous defence prices. But clearly the plan is to not tank, so therefore need to be making steps to improve from last year. So far we are worse.

Look I understand the frustration and the pessimism… 8 years of Treliving with little playoff and regular season success will do that but to have such absolutes seems unreasonable when we haven’t even reached free agency. Who’s to say we haven’t replaced Gio?? Martinez is out there and has history with Sutter as well no? We have to let the off-season fully play out before we can be critical of the team IMO. Honestly Sutter has me excited for next season and this roster is no where near completed so it will be interesting to see what he ends up getting to work with!

Monahan might get traded but his return won't be much anyway.
Then the cap space will be used on the free agency market. Gotta wait a little longer to see what this team ends up looking like.
I'd be surprised if there's any big trades besides that, as there's no way to win trades from our current position of desperation.

Flames have to be smarter. Asking price for some might have been too high, so it is tough to make bold moves. Really wish the Flames followed the Florida model they are picking up gems everywhere and becoming a threat. Hall was available at one point (before this season), but we didn't seem to have much interest in him, or didn't have the means to acquire him. Flames have to be smarter and turn this ship around. Still time to see how things shake out.

I was being facetious, but the quote was “bottom of the Pacific”. The Flames can only tank to the bottom of their own division. Not their fault other teams have worse players.

I agree. I feel like the teams that are trying to load up are paying way to much. If I were to label the winners of the last few days I feel like Buffalo Arizona and Columbus have dramatically improved their future in the last few days. Teams like Vancouver philly might be much better but the cost could be franchise crippling for years if they don’t work out.
But if the Flames did a retool and sold players they could set themselves up big time with these prices

Sends a message to free agents if you’re giving one narrative to guys like Tanev and Markstrom and then throwing in the towel.
Good luck trying to sign any UFAs in the future.

Go into the year status quo and a slow start might force ownership’s hand.
