I mean, they’re bottom 6 forwards.
Where would you play them?

Came across this tweet from April, which features Oliver Ekman-Larsson very clearly and accurately describing the qualities of brand new Canuck Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

"Anchors" expiring after this season, and for a team that was out of the playoff race by week-two last year.
I agree the Canucks will be better in 2021-22, but this trade makes things pretty ugly beyond that. Their core-players are still young, but their top-centre can't play more than 60 games in a season, and their best defenseman was one of the worst defensive players in the entire League last year.

Which isn't much of an improvement over every Flames thread turning into a Sam Bennett thread.

At least we've never had a Swede defenseman who wore number 23 and had that issue ....

I'm pretty sure old Edler was better... And he couldn't even skate.

Only one more year but they were still a 12M anchor. Van gets back 2 players that I think will help them not only this year but for years to come. Again, I think OEL will be much better on a new team, Coyotes have been a disaster for years now.

I know some people think Schmidt is an anchor too, but I actually think Schmidt could very reasonably bounce back and be worth his deal based on his play before last season... which is going to make it all the funnier when they trade him for next to nothing before opening night.
|
Ahhh, moving the goal posts. I thought Schmidt was horrible and his contract was going to be an anchor too. Now there are rumours he's going to move so lets pump his tires so we can crap on the Canucks some more
The analysis of players on here seems to have an awful lot to do with the jersey they wear and not their performance.

Nope, that was my view before the trade rumours started.
I mean, if he doesn't end up getting traded, I won't change my tune (unless he plays badly again next season). I honestly think they should keep him because his value is likely to go up between now and the trade deadline. But it's hard to see how they fit everyone under the cap without trading someone else.

Bryan McCabe is currently a better dman than OEL, so he could be an improvement.

I think you're right for this season.
But it's the next few years when the OEL contract will hurt and the impact of not having that 9th overall adding to your young core will be felt.
We went through it with Hamonic, but at least he had a cheap contract (part of the attraction of acquiring him) on his decline.
