They were not getting close in contract negotiations. Friedman spoke about it last week I think. He also had arbitration rights.

The rumors were that Carolina wasn't going to qualify Nedeljkovic because they were afraid of the arbitration award

I also would have thought Detroit would be after Wallstedt at the draft, but with this...perhaps Wallstedt gets one step closer to falling to us?

Ok, but the ask wasn’t even very high. The return is terrible. It’s not like the trade makes a lot of sense for the Canes, the kid was great last year.
