One is big and can play big boy hockey. Otherwise, they will play a similar role in the bottom six. They produce around the same offense.

Issue will be if the Flames extend Pitlick to a bad contract. He's fine with what he's paid now. Pitlick and Ryan should not be getting anything more than $2 million.

I believe the suggestion was the Flames would send the Oilers 3rd that they got in the Neal/Lucic deal to Seattle for Pitlick.

A bad one at that. If our bottom six features Pitlick rather than Ryan, or Pitlick rather than Leivo, the team is worse for it.

Add in a cost to acquire? Gah, I hope he goes elsewhere.

This is the obvious choice given the Sutter connection but he's already 33 years old with a LOT of playoff mileage on him.

McCabe will be discounted due to his injury and is my top choice

Worthwhile risk. He has been good on terrible teams and knee surgeries have come a long way

He seems like a pretty decent 4th liner though.

27 points in 80 games with Dallas in 2017-2018
20 points in 63 games with the Flyers in 2019-2020

Avg 0.30 ppg or 24 points per 82 games season for a 4th liner is pretty good production. I mean the Flames were getting that kind of production out of Sam Bennett and he was getting some top 6 minutes sprinkled in.

That's also what Derek Ryan was putting up last season. Pitlick is bigger and grittier too and half the price of Ryan.

The top 6 needs upgrading, but so does the bottom 6.

Ideally, you sign a guy like in UFA but will it cost less than $2 million? Barclay Goodrow just got $3.6 million from the Rangers for a similar type of role.

Schwartz is a nifty player. But do the Flames really need another a small, skilled LW? Ahead of a RW or LD?
