Yeah totally mixed emotions.

I like cap space. I like that they didn't give up assets to protect him.

But I hate that we won't get that complete story of playing out the contract, then signing two more cheaper one year deals and then retiring with his whole career in Calgary.

Sort of hoping it's a one year blip then the two one year deals.

Biggest relief to me though is the assets weren't expended which sort of signals that the mgmt team know change was needed too, and that this core as it stands won't and probably can't get it done.

Yes it was the same season

I would say Gio would likely have won the Norris in 2015 if he didn’t get hurt and would have been nominated in 2014 if he wasn’t injured as well

It was the right decision by Tre, but doesn't ease the loss. Without a significant addition to the D group, those who didn't appreciate Giordano's abilities as an all-round defenseman will.

Yeah, I got my years mixed up. He should have won it in 17-18 as well as 18-19.

This is now a great opportunity for Hanafin to continue his progression as the best D on the Flames. He was having a hell of a good season before the injury

This sucks but it was the right move from a management perspective.

Brad looked at the long term picture and it was the right thing to do.

Best if luck to Gio except for games against the Flames.

There's room for both, this expansion draft covers the whole league and a lot of fans don't quite follow as vehemently as some of us on forums like this.

I think I'm more excited about this expansion than I was for the Las Vegas one though, maybe cause Seattle is closer and I look forward to seeing Mark Giordano in a Kraken jersey and new team. I think they will be good.

My favorite too. Probably the best goal I saw live. Funny story, I thought he was a forward with the way he dangled. Jaw dropped even more when I got a clearer view of his jersey number!
