You're right. There's definitely been no other era in the history of broadcast media where something someone has said was misconstrued and overreacted to by the general public.
I mean, in a BAC context, you could probably say that. I'm willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. He doesn't have a sordid history of saying homophobic things and he's already apologized.
If you told me two nights ago I would be defending Ron I would have called you something much worse than what Ron said.

Guy was on the air until 3AM and then on again the next day for 6 hours trying to make a joke on the spot. It came off wrong and he apologized.

OK, but I still maintain that this explanation makes no sense whatsoever. Even leaving aside the notion that someone would be "positive for rum" - as if that's a thing anyone has ever said in the history of the English language - the notion that having a shirtless picture of a guy on the shelf behind you would entail that you've had too much to drink is such a total non sequitur that it doesn't even qualify as a joke.
I guess I'll believe him because it's not like he has a history of saying this kind of stuff the way Cherry does but... yeah. Still makes no sense.
