At least publicly, it seems like Treliving has taken a major step back. He seemed to be on the radio and commenting in articles pretty regularly and now I can't remember hearing from him since the trade deadline.
The coach appears to be on a different page about the quality of the team after 7 years of Treliving at the helm and the coach also seems to be an ownership selection. At this point I'd be surprised if Treliving was the GM much longer after the end of the season.

I've (partially) joked that Treliving has already been let go. It kind of feels that way though doesn't it? We'll see if we hear from him in the next few days as the season comes to a close.

If we lost last 2 games we would be sitting bottom 5 in the standing. But they will win a couple games and will be at 15th as usual. Even you don't know who they will pick at 5th overall, I'm sure the trade value of that draft could have a very high value.

The amount of vitriol over the difference between a 10 OA pick becoming a 13 OA pick (if we run the table) is absolutely astounding to me. Some of you are acting like we just blew our chance to draft a Crosby or McDavid in a draft that doesn't have anywhere near that top end talent.
I'm also not bent out of shape about not seeing our middling prospects play NHL games. Maybe one of those guys forces his way onto the roster next year, but it's not like the guys we are talking about are surefire NHLers that we are holding back. Most of them are tweeners at best.
I get people are upset at how the season has gone, but it all feels overly dramatic.

I'm honestly not too fussed about draft position this year. This draft is super random. But I would like to see what we have in the organization.

You can't really read too much in Sutter's post game comments generally, but from the other game it was interesting how critical he came off about the roster. How it was foolish to think the team was gonna be one of the top 3 in the division, so they weren't realistically going to have a shot at that, is very telling. How does that not come across as a shot at the GM for the roster he complied?

Its nice that they can win games when it genuinely doesnt matter.
Thats a handy skill to have.

On April 9, only 5 teams had fewer points than Calgary.
The difference between 6th OA and 11/12th overall (this is where the Flames will pick) is a lot.
It's easily worth more than a late first. In fact, this amount might even be worth more than Monahan. Especially when you consider the fact that there is a tier between the top 8 and the picks afterwards.
Also, at 6th OA you have a 15.2% chance of winning the lottery. Rather than 6.3%.
And the prospects might be "middling", but they're also the best non-CHL prospects the Flames have.
I'm not sure how much you've followed the Heat this year, but Phillips and Mackey were great and deserve to play. And even moreso, they deserve to be developed.

Other than evaluating prospects and maybe tinkering with special teams how can you tell anything from these games?

Sorry, was listening while in my morning routine, wasn't able to post all the details.
They were also pondering the lineup decisions of last night, Markstrom starting, Giordano playing 25+ minutes, while a guy like valimaki played zero. They considered perhaps hit was bonus money or something (x games played, points, etc) and nothing stood out. Even Warrener was dumb founded.
They went on to ponder whether the entire org was ok with the way yesterday's roster decisions. Pinder appeared to allude to not all in the org would be happy with this, and of course, the GM and leadership value the difference between a 6th overall pick vs a 13th overall pick. It went as far to discuss whether their could be a a more interesting divide between coaching decision vs roster decisions going forward.
They all agreed the lineup decisions are likely 100% Sutter, and he would require full autonomy on who dresses.
Friedman was on the call, and the only word he could really use to describe yesterday's lineup decisions was "weird". He then went onto say that it isn't fully surprising, in particular, in how valimaki is being handled. Sutter is likely challenging valimaki. He realizes this strategy has worked, look at the cup in LA, but unsure off how this resonates in this generation of rookie/young players.

Even in evaluation of prospects, these are not serious games, so all you can say is "this guy performed OK in a non-hitting, low intensity affair". TBF, this is all they have, so better than nothing I guess.

Calgary was never really that low though. They had a ton of games in hand. It's like when they were "4 points back" but Montreal had 3-4 games in hand.
They have played .500 hockey it's not like they are on some massive heater. Losing 10 in a row wasn't gonna happen. Especially with this competition.

Lots of fun when even a team's solid moves get hammered on.
Moving down twice to grab two additional picks and still getting a solid prospect in Zary may not get you dancing in the streets, but it's exactly the types of outcomes that build up a system.
Lots to be depressed about, lets not look down on victories.

You can sort of take them like pre-season games, which we didn't have many of this year.
