Lindholm has immense value to a team pushing now and for the next 3 years but not for a team in the midst of a long rebuild. It is why I think if the Flames decide to go into a long term build that Lindholm jumps to the front of the line for must move assets.
Buffalo will want a star player in return a name player that is likely younger than Eichel and can be part of the Sabres now and the future. I think Tkachuk is the only player the Flames can offer that would make sense to the Sabres

Except Tkachuk is in the exact same contract situation. And gets a big payday in 1 year.

Rather go long term at 24 than 30. Tkachuk is a player Buffalo can sell to their fanbase and I think a lot more marketable and desirable for a team like Buffalo. I hate to lose Tkachuk but in all honesty it feels like Eichel is the only Hail Mary type move they could attempt to try and add the elite talent they lack and avoid going into an immediate rebuild.

At this point Buffalo is going to have to overpay to get a player like Tkachuk to stay. It may not be a bad strategy. If they let Tkachuk run amok and give him the identity of the team, it will put people in the seats.

Exactly I think he’s just what that team could use in return for Eichel if they aren’t going scorched earth and only looking for picks/prospects. Great way to change the feel/direction of the team.
If it isn’t LA or The Rangers, I definitely believe Calgary is next.

Tkachuk
Valimaki

This as the main component of a trade? I'd be all for that if we can get Gaudreau to commit to staying. Valimaki and the first (depending on how the 4 game Canucks tank off goes) may end up hurting the most. Eichel becomes the best centre on the team, since Joe Nieuwendyk/Doug Gilmour and possibly ever.

Buffalo’s biggest target going forward is likely the ‘22 and ‘23 entry drafts.
I can see a trade where it’s entirely prospect and pick based, not big dollar active NHL’ers. They’ll want to be as bad as possible to give themselves the best opportunity at drafting in the top slots for ‘22 and ‘23.

I think it is a really strong offer and maybe the Flames need to add another asset hopefully something small like a 2nd but I could also see it being a top prospect or Dube.
I also agree keeping Gaudreau becomes imperative to try and be a competitive team. I think you move Lindholm back to wing and load up that top line and hope a recovered Monahan is good enough to center the second line with Mangiapane and someone else.

They can’t do that when moving a $10M player. There are going to be other bodies involved.

I think that’s close, that’s a trade I’d do all day. So make it Tkachuk Mangiapane Valimaki and this years first. What now?

When I said earlier that this team doesn't need an Eichel, I meant it. What are we going to do with him, exactly? Tell him to drop the puck back to Johnny on the PP and then go hard into the corner to get it when it's dumped it in at the redline? Tell him to stand in front of the net and don't move in case Michael Stone gets the puck on net?
What about 5 on 5? What's he going to do? Will he be the dumper, the chaser or the grinder? I haven't watched a lot of Sabres' hockey, so I'm not sure which one of these Calgarian Qualities are his forte. He looks like he's scored a lot of points in his career, which is great, but can he keep up with superstars like Simon and Robinson on his wings?
How is he in the dressing room? This is a very tight-knit team that doesn't take kindly to players who go to museums and art galleries and like winning games. Will he be ok with that?
I mean we're going to have to pay a lot to get him, so we should figure out if he's going to fit into this organization's deep-rooted and results-driven culture first.
Edit: Sticking to my earlier assertion, what this organization needs more than anything else is an enema. Get rid of the sh*t that's been stuck to every crevice of this org since the late 80s. Flush it out. Start over. Otherwise, we're just paying an arm and a leg for another talented player who's going to accomplish literally nothing for us.

Just another way for Buffalo to capitalize on the situation.
Trade Eichel and take an underperforming overpaid player back alongside a bounty of futures.

I must lol at the assertion that what this team doesn’t need is a 24 year old player who’s going to be the #1C for Team USA at the Olympics.

Flames could tank for 10 years and not get an Eichel
He is better than 3 of Edmontons 4 first overalls

Not only would Eichel be good for the team on ice , it would be good for the owners also. Someone posted a while back that owners were a little scared about season ticket renewals. They trade for Eichel and they will have no worries. Everybody will want to see that new toy.

That is true too, who does the team have to sell? Imagine they lose Gaudreau too.
I love Mangi but don't think he is selling many jerseys

If that deal happened before the expansion draft, Buffalo will have to expose someone like Tage Thompson or Casey Mittlestadt. Losing a recent 1st rounder to expansion probably does not appeal to them.
Any trade that has a net increase in contracts for Buffalo and a 2021 first rounder will have to happen in the week after the expansion draft and prior to the entry draft. It's a pretty small window and I doubt Buffalo is going to let themselves get cornered by a deadline for possibly the most important transaction they will make in a generation.
I think any deal for Eichel is going to happen after the draft and include multiple firsts, likely 2022 and 2023 picks.
