He is a factor. He’s a liability. He’s a negative contributor.

I think a lot of players came to play tonight, but it was an absolute dog fight. No room out there, super tight checking and everybody on both sides of the ice was awful with the puck because of it. Flames had some chances but they ended up hitting 3 posts. Skilled teams finish those, the Flames on the other hand hit those posts or miss the net. That’s what they are.
Just not enough natural finishers and that’s on management. I’ve been bellyaching about this team not having enough skilled finishers for years and what does Treliving do? He signs a defenseman and a goalie because he wanted goaltending to be a strength. Well, goaltending was not a strength this season, but the same old can’t score Flames once again couldn’t score. Hell, we score less goals than the Ottawa freaking Senators. The rebuilding Ottawa freaking Senators! who by the way kicked our damn ass this year.

The Habs stole two games from us recently where they weren't very good.

I love the Calgary Flames. But I don't love these Calgary Flames, and I won't miss them when they're dismantled.

No we don't. Monahan was actually a good player when Love was pulling his schtick. If he was saying those things now though would be hard to argue.

Tkachuk has been a major building block and game difference maker up until this season. Hasn't contributed since the period ending Toronto Maple Leaf puck flip. It broke him or he changed his mental gears as a contributor of the team, which means he needs off the team.

I love picking up the little nuances of the broadcast.... Did anyone else notice that no one seemed to be paying too much attention to flames assistant coach Ray Edwards during the flames time out with under a minute left as he was trying to draw up the game tying play? He looked PO'd also. Yelling

Going into this year, he was typically a lock for 6 or 7 huge third period goals over a season.
Those were the times I loved Tkachuk, when he potted a huge goal late to tie or pull ahead. Always thought it was great to have this guy who was able to come through for us like that. They were not infrequent in his first three seasons.
Now they're non existent.
Not to be blunt, but did Muzzin' flip and getting shown up head to head by his brother just cause his nuts to fall off?
Crazy that the teammates not scrumming up after the end of that game got to Tkachuk so much. If what was rumored to have been said to him in the room was true, yeah, I side with him there. But there's just no sense in letting a disagreement over ideologies with another guy totally derail your season.
Look at Lucic and all the criticism he's gotten for his cap hit and declining ability. He just goes out and finds ways to add something now to his team and has no qualms in beating guys down when he's challenged. He sucks it up and does what he can.
Tkachuk has to figure himself out. Cause his character is always going to be controversial amongst other players. He has to learn to not care, embrace it and hone in on what he does best.

I thought the Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk line was working quite well for the past 5-6 games. I thought it was a new wrinkle to offense. I wonder why they went away from that?

I said it in the game thread but I'm disappointed in Sutter for breaking them out. This game is on him as well as a result of that since I think he tried to fix something that wasn't broken, and a result instead of having one effective line, he got none.
Not that Tkachuk may not have had his head in his ass still whenever he had to do something with the puck, but at least Lindholm and Gaudreau may have generated more offense then. They after all set up the only goal on the PP.
Balance of lines isn't possible with the roster with how the players relied on are playing. So put the best scoring line you could possibly assemble, and role with it.

Not Calgary though, they are too smart. Would rather trade down and pick Jankowski.
(sorry bad joke, but just realized Flames have bad luck with TT's)

Did anyone truly want to watch this group get their doors blown off by the Leafs in the 1st round.

Not all of us spend our Friday and Saturday night hovered around a computer to post on CP. I'm glad I didn't considering the results. The sooner this version of the Calgary Flames dies the better.
Not skilled or talented enough and the 3rd was another example of that. They couldn't make a pass, gain the zone, or sustain any type of dangerous pressure in a do or die situation, which is something we've seen often the last 5 years.
Montreal is very fortunate that they were playing the Flames tonight, against any other half competent team, they get steam rolled. That wasn't very impressive on their part.
Unpopular opinion but we need Ls more than Ws at this point. If people want to jump on me for being that guy, cool, i'm done with the script we've seen for the better part of 30 years. I hope this organization can commit to a few years of pain for hopefully some prosperity by the time the new arena is ready to go.

That PP was pretty atrocious, lots of trouble gaining the zone
Tkachuk seems to be really disengaged. Too much Junior stuff still, plus no intensity or compete. Somebody has to figure out what bug is up his ass.
Markstrom was pretty decent on the whole. He only let in two. Absolutely no chance on the Weber shot. This game is not on him.
The double pad stack is the absolutely perfect save selection for every occasion. People love it.
|
A lot of what made Hasek Hasek was his willingness to go to the two pad stack in any situation and at a moment’s notice - he used it twice in the shootout against Canada.
The pad stack takes the bottom Of the net is away completely, and the top of the net is such a gaping target that the shooter isn’t going to be picking corners - he’s shooting it at the center bar.
So at that point, all the goalie has to do is time his arm to get in the way, because he knows where the puck is going to be.
