Good value for a depreciating asset. I maintain sam wasn’t developed properly. However, he’s now a panther and playing for JQ. I wish him luck and will be pulling for him and a rejuvenated panther squad.

I like this Emile 2.0’s scouting report. Who knows what he will end up as but playing in the SHL at 19 is an accomplishment. And he had some decent numbers considering his age.

And the second next year is intriguing. Maybe they have a rough year next year in Florida?

Sad to see it end like this but he just couldn’t cope with the situation here now he’s playing for JQ. I think Q is happy after this one. Not much in capital for a guy with good pedigree and maybe needed a change of scenery, so good move by zito.

It’s sad because sam was playing better under sutter of late but I see his confidence has been so eroded due to the bad officials, strings of coaches and poor deployment. I liked his physical play as a response to his waning pp time but the margins of psychological resiliency are thin to succeed at those levels and he looks frustrated and indifferent at times more often than not this season. He will be remembered for some serious hockey with a noticeable GAF meter befitting the honor of playing for this franchise.

This was a trade that had to be made given the risk of losing him in the expansion draft for nothing. Tre did good with what he got in retrun.

Was reading on HF and see some fans thought Heineman would be a first round pick and is an agitating guy to play against.

Glad to hear the 2nd is in 2022 when it should be easier to scout players. All in all a solid deal for the Flames.

Really sucks Bennett didn’t pan out and one of the key reasons the rebuild didn’t have better results for the team. I was so high on him when we drafted him and held him in the highest regard for the first couple of years he was in the organization. I thought he was our future number 1 C.

Best of luck Sam and I am happy he was sent to a team where it doesn’t really matter if he breaks out there.

This was a great trade by Treliving. To the people complaining about how a 4th overall turned into 2x 2nds, you’re right that’s what happened but in asset management you can’t succumb to the sunk cost fallacy.

It was weird how after 400 NHL games people still kinda thought of this guy as a prospect. Happy for Bennett and glad he seems happy but personally as a fan I’m happy to move on too. Also like the signal it sends from Treliving that he’s ready to move on from certain players although I’m not sure if this guy would be considered “core” I guess.

Fun hearing Conroy talk about how it all went down for this and Rittich. Seems there was a call with like a minute left about Ryan but it was too vague and too late.

Not sure if this was mentioned earlier, but this is a bit of an understatement when you look at his stats in Sweden's junior league, SuperElit.

Heineman had 26 goals in 29 games in his draft year. Since 1999, here's the complete list of SuperElit players with a better goals-per-GP rate in their first year of draft eligibility:

Anze Kopitar

The more I read about Heineman, the more I love the kid! We've got a player here!

Heineman looks like a good LHS RW type. All the video I could get my fingers on show great speed a willingness to hit (and hard) Which is rare for the European leagues. Like I've watched him absolutely level a dman. It was impressive. And he has a slick and deadly onetimer. Dont know how his consistency is but if he has a good motor he can easily be a good 2nd line winger.

At worst looks like a solid 4tf liner if not everything pans put for him. Looks pretty decent.

I like the 2022 2nd as well. Wouldn't have minded some more bullets in the chamber for this draft though.

Reason being is that with everything so unknown , there's bound to be steals late into the draft.

Like wheres the OHL top guys? Where's the WHL late risers? What about the AJHL and BCHL?

If there's any year where one could say duplicate a Henrik Zetterburg pick, its this draft.

I was all in on a Panthers bandwagon for the playoffs, having Bennett there now just seals the deal.

So, is Heinemann's 2021 season already over?

no kidding, should we have traded him for Yakapov? 4th overall for 1st overall!

No. His team is in the quarter-finals. down 0-2 in a best of 7 series. He was actually traded while the 2nd game was being played

I agree to a point, but I'm actually happier to see us stock up for the 2022 Draft, rather than this year's. I do have faith that our scouts can dig up some gems this year, but as a guy that studies the draft pretty hard every year (not claiming to be a pro or anything), there's much less substance in 2021. I know that there's a lot less to go on this year because of COVID, but the vast majority of available prospects have played somewhere, albeit often sparingly-but that could mean more mistakes, too. Next year, we'll know who we're drafting.

Yakupov is an interesting comparison.
He got traded after his 4th NHL season and netted a guy drafted in the 4th and a 3rd round pick.

Nikita Filatov eventually went for a single 3rd

Seems like Tree got very good value here.

To that point, here is a list of players currently under the age of 20 that played more than 30 games in the SHL this year (30 games being roughly half to two-thirds of the games, a number I arbitrarily picked. It seemed like a fair cut-off point to distinguish between players that were just filling in versus ones that were considered key players on the team):

Forwards
Lucas Raymond - 34 games (4th overall in 2020) - 18 points
Emil Heineman - 43 games (43rd overall in 2020) - 13 points
Zion Nybeck - 39 games (115th overall in 2020) - 7 points
Daniel Ljungman - 42 games (154th overall in 2020) - 4 points
Oskar Kvist - 34 games (undrafted) - 4 points
Elliot Ekmark - 31 games (198th overall in 2020) - 1 point

Defense
Moritz Seider - 41 games (6th overall in 2019) - 28 points (Wow)
Phillip Broberg 44 games (8th overall in 2019) - 13 points
Helge Grans - 43 games (35th overall in 2020) - 12 points
Emil Andrae - 31 games (54th overall in 2020) - 7 points
Anton Olsson - 39 games (draft eligible this year) - 4 points

Goalies
Hugo Alnefelt - 39 games (71st overall in 2019)

That's a very exclusive club. Out for ~400 players that played in the SHL this year, there were 12 under the age of 20 that played 30 or more games. Of those, 6 were forwards and Heineman was 2nd in scoring.

I only used players that are currently under 20 year of age as of today. Players that turned 20 this year but started the year under were not included, basically because it's time consuming. Had to draw the line somewhere.

Good trade for BT sometimes making lemonade is ok.
Sam needed this move as well could still develop into a 2nd or 3rd line center.
Allows the Flames to audition other players
I am sure BT did as much as he could but wish he could sell more

I'm a huge Bennett fan, always have been and I wish him the best. I hope he breaks out in FLA.
Having said that, this trade had to happen. There was no way to protect him in the expansion draft. So, while I'm sad to see him go, I'm really happy with the return and I'm happy we don't have to face him multiple times a year.
