Maybe a market for Rittich. Playoff teams with league worst goaltending: Blues, Caps and Predators (although Saros is playing well).
Happy birthday, I hope the flames gift you a trade with great future returns today

Rittich+ Johnny to the blues for a package?

His 4 surgeries. Both hips, groin and his wrists reconstructed. He still produces better that most on the team. I wish we had sat him and not let him play through some of those injuries. Amazing how quietly he goes about his business you rarely catch him limping off the ice.

Robert thomas+ klim kostin + whatever cap they want to give us. Would be glorious. Blues would be pretty stacked too.

Big no thanks on Kostin, he had 3 AHL years and a 4 game cup of coffee before jetting off to the KHL this year.

Really hoping not to be let down by a Gaudreau trade but more and more I’m preparing for disappointment.

He went to the KHL on loan, he's still signed and it was actually a really smart move by the Blues to get him over there. His Stateline may not impress but most of that came from the final stretch of the season he broke out. Hartley loves him.

If your dealing with Blues Robert Thomas should be the focus.

I can see the 7 days before the TDL being the busiest. Especially for the Canadian division.

Kyrou would be a great get. Won’t happen though.

I think last year the Blues would have agreed, but Kyrou has surpassed Thomas, right now at least. Now would be the best time to cash in on Thomas before he gets back to his normal self.

Gaudreau to St. Louis makes sense. Imagine him feeding Tarasenko or Hoffman all day long.

I would feel out Ottawa and see if they would acquire Matthew. Brady isn't going anywhere though.

I know this won't be received well, but I would actually gamble on Ottawa still being a lottery team for the next couple of seasons. Not saying they don't have a bright future, but I think they are still at least a season or 2 away. I would gamble on that and see if they would give up their 2022 or 2023 1st rounder for a shot at drafting one of the 3 "generational talents" coming up.

Trade everyone at the deadline. We don't need to worry about the expansion draft or having a team next year. Burn it completely down and start all over. Will be great to finish behind the Kraken next season. The "current" Flames fans need a good harsh taste of what fruitless hockey is really all about.

I don't even see this as a gamble. It takes YEARS to rebuild, and Ottawa is just starting. But I do like the idea of shopping Tkachuk to the Senators.

Ottawa is going into draft four of their rebuild. Rebuilding is painful and you really have to suck to get the picks where you might get lucky to land the talent you need.

Well, they also screwed themselves out of a year by trading their first which worked out well for Colorado.

...ah crap, I hope that’s not the stage we hit in the off-season...

All Flames fans know fruitless hockey. There have only been 3-5 seasons spread out across the last 30 years that haven’t been “fruitless”, despite what we try and tell ourselves. Just sneaking into the playoffs and hoping to win a series, but ultimately missing the playoffs or getting destroyed in round 1 should not be considered “fruitful” to any degree.

They also benefitted tremendously (and unexpectedly) from their deal with SJ for Erik Karlsson. I would say that makes the Colorado trade a wash.

The point stands, though: Rebuilding is long and arduous; it works out about as often as it doesn't.

Yeah, it’s tough.

Tanking is only one part of rebuilding. You have to nail draft picks, but you also have to just generally manage your team competently. If you look at the teams that have tanked and continued to wander in futility for years upon years you’re also looking at teams that come about their ineptitude honestly. Poor management dooms you know matter what your approach is.

We haven’t tanked but we’ve accomplished every bit as much as the Buffalo Sabres for example. Bad management is just bad management.

My biggest argument for tanking just comes down to Stanley Cup champions. They all generally have something in common (outside of St. Louis and Boston) - and that’s having players selected in the top-3. So, 2 teams in 20 years - do you want to chase that model, or go the route that 18 of the past 20 Stanley Cup winners did?

I am on board with tanking. But short of drafting a Wright or a Bedard the timeline is likely in the ballpark of ten years. It will suck.

All things considered, it’s kind of a good time to try and tank.

This season is already lost. Contracts are coming to an end for players in the “prime” of their careers that we should be able to extract value from - and, as you mention - we’ve got 2022 and 2023 shaping up with very strong top-ends of the draft. All of this is leading right into a new arena in 2024.

I see the opportunity the Flames have right now and just hope they go for it. Tank for the next 2 seasons. Having Darryl at the helm to make sure developing players don’t take any short cuts is also a huge benefit.

...one can dream.
