I know a girl who was at a house party at Virtanen's place the Thursday before last, and other players were there as well.
These guys are not following the rules and the consequences could kill people.

It's this Brazil variant. It seems to be different.
The group that I know that came down with Covid recently in Whistler - where that variant is prevalent - had fevers, headaches, fatigue, loss of smell, but curiously no coughs.
I'd speculate that the lack of a cough may be a reason it transmits more easily, as people think it's likely something else (like a bad sleep or hangover) whereas a cough would give the game away early on.
Everyone from the group I know has recovered now (except for one person to whom it was passed fairly recently), but none had a symptom-free experience with it. (I should add that BC doesn't seem to tell the average Joe whether they had a variant or not, but the timing/location of their infections, along with the symptoms, strongly implicates the Brazil variant IMO).

Not entirely eliminated it, that's a virus that is spread by kids, more then covid is. Kids aren't always going to follow the rules and that's a good thing. We need to stop trying to stop the spread of viruses. Imagine what the next flu season will look like.

What happens when you don't expose people to viruses that we have been exposed to for years? You're disrupting the natural immunity to a yearly pandemic. It's gonna come back 10 fold next year or sooner. Unless we have a larger population take the flu vaccine. I strongly believe will have record high or higher than normal deaths from the next flu.

Is that how the flu actually works? There are different stains spreading every year. I haven’t seen anything to indicate we are setting ourselves up for a significant jump in flu deaths once people start mingling freely again. Well, more than this past year obviously. But not more than a ‘typical’ year.
So is that an actual thing you can tell me more about? Or are you just spitballing?

When you slow or stop the spread of a virus, like the common cold or flu, you can't predict the following strain. That's not a hunch. It will spread faster and probably be closer to a 2018 flu season in which actually had a very high lethality rate. The vaccine had a 40% effective rate.
My point is, if we don't have enough to study the current strain, we won't have a accurate vaccine.

I think it will be the opposite. The flu had the worst effect on vulnerable people. Covid has a much stronger effect on vulnerable people, so many of the vulnerable will already by dead from covid next year. They've already observed this pattern in Sweden, where you have displaced deaths.
Covid is so deadly we'll likely see lower flu deaths for the next few years. This will be especially true in places like the usa where there was poor compliance with restrictions.
I get your point about the virus being more mutated and foreign as more time has passed, but there's also been far less flu transmission overall which means less opportunity for mutation.

Maybe I'm wrong and it will be a normal flu season next year or later this year. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I figured this would start happening as teams fell out of the race. You aren't going to the playoffs anyway why be careful. (Not my attitude but I can see spoiled young millionaires who think they are invincible saying this)

I think complacency is an issue with the population as a whole. Not for every individual obviously but in general. I have noticed more and more people walking by hand sanitizing stations compared to just a few months ago.
They really need to figure out how effective the current vaccines are against the newer strains. If it isn’t high enough, you run the risk of giving people false security. Vaccines don’t typically get approved below a certain level of effectiveness because based on how humans behave after they are vaccinated, you can actually increase transmissions.
I posted a link earlier that suggests there are concerns that the Brazil variant is resistant to the vaccines, but they have no idea how much yet.

If that is true, the NHL needs to get involved. They punished a few players and teams for this.

Looks like one of the players was also a reinfection (perhaps from the P1 variant). Jayce Hawryluk had COVID last March when he was with Ottawa and is now one of the Canucks that has tested positive.
