He is still tied for second on the team for points and is having a crappy season. I am not sure what you think 7 million gets for a player these days but I am guessing a lot of teams would take him at 7.

Not his finest season, but the entire team is struggling. Chucky will be fine- he is 23 years old. To suggest he is on the decline of his career is silly.

I still wish we traded him for Laine and I’m a big Tkachuk fan.

But Laine has been awful this year.

Might be none of the “top end” guys left outside of Lindholm. Which is probably a good thing.
Only concern is can the Flames get anything for the rest (tkachuk, gio, gaudreau, monahan). Or do they leave to seattle or free agency for nothing other than cap space.

What? I think it absolutely would have. Tkachuk had our scored Dubois in every season and had all the intangibles and grit that Torts would have coveted.

Sam Bennett did at 18. Remember 18 yrs old Sam Bennett?
You could argue Sean Monahan did at 24 also.
Something wrong with Flames player development?

Somethings wrong with fans inability to understand that development and production are neither linear no completely consistent year to year.

Well, apparently he's also a Flames' prospect who never panned out according to one poster. Some weird analysis of a player who up until this season has been excellent mostly game in and game out.
He'll be fine in the long run. He's only 23. Let's try not to run a player out of town who is still on pace for 60 points prorated to an 82 game season.
Has he not played up to standards? Yes. But the entire team stinks and it's hard to be the standout when there's clearly some rot going on internally. Unless it's a stellar deal that very clearly improves the team, I'm not ready to give up on a guy who has had a down season during a pandemic year.

Tkachuk is better at 23 than Corey Perry was at that age. They are fairly good comparables in that they both play a hard, agitating style, and both are not good skaters. I would argue that Chucky is a better skater at the same age, too. Chucky's best days are ahead.

Covid with everything that comes with it, health worries, family worries, lockdowns, bubbles etc... everything messes people up differently. Maybe Chucky is more affected than most. Guess we’ll see who the real Tkachuk is next season

The bottom line is, Elite players make the other players around them better. They don't bring their A game every single night, but most nights, or than half of the nights.
Tkachuk does not make players around him better. Before this season you could easily argue that Tkachuk was dragging guys into the fight, and performing most nights.
This year, certain players on this roster have grown tired of his antics and are tired of him acting all high school on the ice. Diving to try and draw a penalty, punching guys for no reason after the whistle, and having temper tantrums.
The other night when he was back-checking, he absolutely embarrassed himself and his team mates. He dove instead of trying to catch the man he was chasing, and then we got scored on. He then smashed his stick on the ice and made it seem like the ref missed something. Even Kelly Hrudey, who is an extremely forgiving commentary guy says "I don't know what Tkachuk was doing there, he probably should have tried to back check ".
Plays like this have been happening a lot. His confidence is clearly at an all time low, because he CAN NOT handle to puck. It is a grenade on his stick, and every offensive play ends on his blade. He went from a player I loved to watch, to a player who honestly makes me mad watching.
Everyone who knows hockey, knows Tkachuks weakness is his skating. He is slower than average, and absolutely is on his butt more than average. It funny how some guys on this board think that he can skate well. There are midget players than could murder him in a race. Skating isn't everything, and thats why he made the NHL. Skating was the knock on him during the draft, and in his junior days.
What makes him good, and makes him a top 6 forward, is his willingness to go to the tough areas, and battle. He is an elite puck deflector, rebound guy etc. He goes to the paint and holds his ground, and no one in this league does it better. He plays well behind the net and in the corners, and can get under the opposing players skins.
He has got away from this, and it has hurt him statically, which in turn, has diminished his confidence. Players on opposing teams are not reacting to him, because he is forcing it, and trying to start things out of nothing, instead of creating hostility by driving the net, and getting in the goalies face during point shots etc.
On the PP, he can't handle the puck. Its been going on for weeks now. This was not the case last year. This year his confidence is playing him into a rabbit hole.
Chuky will be an effective player in this league for years to come, but he isn't "the guy" on any NHL team.
He is a spitting image of Draper when the wings won all those cups. Tipping pucks, hard to move out front of the net, and pissed everyone off.
Calgary does not have "the guy" on their roster. The closest thing they have had to an elite player is Mark Giordano. He has certainly taken steps back because of age, but in the past 4-5 years, he has been a top 10 D man in the entire NHL, and Calgary wasted that opportunity by having guys with no compete like Johnny and Mony to carry the load. It is insane the level of play that has fallen off in Monahans game. Johnny can skate like the wind, so you will always notice him.
Any team who has won a cup has had a deep team, and played 4 lines. They all also had "the guy" on their team, most of them had 2-4 of them.
Chuky has an important role on this team. He needs to get back to being himself, and stop trying to be "the guy" because he isn't going to blow by a guy with speed, or dipsy doddle through the D. He makes his pay cheque in all the tough areas.
