I personally can't wait. I haven't like this team for a few years now as this just isn't a likeable team nor is it a good one. In typical Flames fashion the Flames GM kept the core together past its prime and will sell low on assets further crippling the organization as the team will be less talented after the shakeup. I suppose we will have to hope for a hard working low talent team next season under Sutter but I can get behind a team that works hard every night. I just can't get behind this group as I've been ready to move on for a long time. I just wish the GM didn't keep doubling down on this core as a player like Monahan is worthless now as a trade asset.

I'm 100% onboard for this. I wasn't untill now, but these guys have zero interest in winning. And now I have no interest in keeping them. And I mean any of them.
Also, does anyone else have a hard time loading this particular thread? I seem to get a black screen when I scroll to the bottom.

I do feel like this off season is the prime time to really shake this group up. Treliving makes his best deals at the draft, I'm hoping thats what happens. Whether its Johnny, or whoever I think thats when we see some potentially drastic moves.
On the flip side, if nothing of substance happens. That would be troubling.

There's a good chance Treliving won't even be GM by then. Deciding who would be coach last offseason was important and he really blew it.

GOAT!

I'm of the opinion that every single one of them should be traded for draft picks. We could probably draft 23 players this off season that would collectively be a better team than what we have now

That time was a year ago.
The returns for Monahan, Gaudreau, Bennett, Gio, even Tkachuk (if they go that way) will be substantially lower today. This team is piss-poor at asset management. It’s part of the short-term approach baked into the franchise DNA.

Looking at teams that recently won multiple Cups - they drafted all their own core players.
Hawks - Keith, Kane, Toews
Pens - Crosby, Malkin, Fleury, Letang
Kings - Quick, Doughty, Kopitar

If it’s any consolation, a tank is more then one year. If they start offloading core pieces you can be sure that we will be picking high in 2022 and 2023 as well.

I wonder if Laine is a buy low candidate. Monahan+ for him? Trade Gaudreau for a second line center. That would be a dream lol

It's hard enough to trade a 6 million plus player straight up for picks in the salary cap era. In the flat cap, it's going to be impossible. Trading Gaudreau, Monahan, and Tkachuk will bring back some value but it likely going to be a mix of prospects, 2nd and 3rd round picks, and roster players with contracts to even out the cap hit.

Exactly. Whats the worst that could happen? This team on paper has looked better than its performed for awhile now.
I think its becoming pretty clear that this group, as is, wont cut it.
What's so bad about collecting picks for the next 2 drafts? Sounds exciting to me personally. The thought of minor tweaks to this core is worse than nails on a chalkboard to me.
I just want to win. It's been over 30 years now. This core tried, and failed.

We'd be lucky to get 4ths even but I do think it is going to be for other underperforming players with similar contracts and not futures packages. Reinhart, Laine, Domi etc.

Prospects is pretty variable, would have made more sense if you said something around the prospects. You can basically read your post as Tkachuk for a Kylington type guy and a 2nd/3rd.
