The long lasting habits this team developed under gulutzan will take a while to change.
It is shocking how quickly they just fall back into that passive “possession” system

Man I think Monahan is playing committed out there. Finishing checks, battling. I don’t get all the hate, I feel like he’s doing what’s asked of him. The points aren’t there but it seems like everything else is.

That's how the 2 networks have done it year-long as the SNET crew isn't actually in Ottawa.
TSN airs Ryan Leslie interviews during Flames home games too.

Before the all star break that first year with Peters I reckon.

Apparently HDC was 3-2 for Ottawa. I dunno from those kinda stats though. I don’t disagree that Ottawa had maybe more of the best chances, because fo a couple breakdowns. Calgary had the puck more.
I think the Monahan and Lindholm lines were actually much better than the Backlund line.

I believe there were new episodes of the Flinstones playing. Those were the days.

That says a lot right there about the top players failing the team.

Well that's the problem. He needs to be producing points to justify his role on the team. That's the most important thing he needs to do, and he isn't getting it done. Ultimately it's goals that wins games.

What is the least we can expect from this team? Like showing up on time, wearing their skates then play perimeter hockey? These players get a lot of money by just doing the minimum

He was all over the ice on the PP but 5 on 5 not much.

Completely agree. And I suspect that Sutter notices that too and is happy with his performance. Take the PP. He battled and recovered multiple pucks that his team mates were too ####ing lazy to battle for. Monahan is a sniper, but he's being forced to play the puck recovery role. Yeah, of course his point totals are going to take a hit. When your playing with Johnny "Pablo Escobar" Gaudreau, and he's blowing snow all night, you're not going to get the puck in scoring areas very much.

Plus, he’s losing 5 on 5 battles a lot. I get that I’m probably biased on his play, but I just don’t see how anyone can defend him at this point.

Unfortunately you could be correct. It’s crazy how much they and more specifically Johnny has fallen with regard to offensive prowess. I remember when teams would be on the back of their heels trying to defend Johnny’s vision, not McDavid offensive level fear, but still one that was a treat to watch.

I agree with all of this. I’m thinking Monahan needs to figure out a new scoring spot - the opposition is completely shutting down the usual passes to him. Maybe cross with Johnny and snap a shot from the left.
ETA. Sutter is trusting him on PK and he actually looked fine.

I don’t see that. He’s winning his share of pucks at both ends. Compared with his linemates.

Quit it. Unless you actually have facts to back up a comment like that, that is beyond the pale.
