I don’t know about the generalities, but most goalies don’t get the big payday until significantly more than two full years in the league. And then it usually take a few shorter contracts to get there. There’ve been too many flash in the pan goalies to take that risk. Example - this is Markstrom’s 5th contract, the previous ones never being more than 3 years. See also Bishop, Rask, etc.
