Huge game, obviously. A split isn't good enough. Even an OTL, going 3 pts to 2, isn't good enough. They need to win. And if they do, they will have instilled fear into the Oilers. And they'd be 3 or 4 back, with 2 games in hand, and a much more favorable schedule the rest of the way.
IMO, for the Oilers to win, they need at least two goals from their PP. So the recipe is simple: stay out of the box. Let Kassian be the hero.
Let's do this, boys!

Scorp: great job, but you should have put Neal beside Looch, not Nurse.

After three straight wins, I feel like we're due for a let-down game. Hopefully this isn't it. It would be nice to sweep these clowns and make the entire SN panel cry. If the Flames do end up stumbling a bit tonight, I'm hoping we'll at least get a point out of it.
The first period will be key tonight. Oilers are mad and they're gonna come out flying. No doubt they're also going to throw Kassian out there to try and stir up some shenanigans. Flames need to be ready. And for christ sakes, please get the PP figured out.

When the Oilers start reeling it usually goes pretty bad for them for a few games. I think Smith comes way back down to earth and I just have a funny feeling that this one is a laugher. Flames win this one big. It's gonna be a 5-0 or 5-1 game tonight.

If Smith lets in a bad one early, then watch out, it could be a rout.

Ugh, why do this game have to start so late. I can only watch for an hour before bed.
Go Flames, go!

Man I'm excited to see Lindholm play with an "extra gear" + new confidence growing for the entire group.
Flames are fun to watch again!

GOAT!

Oiler fans: Ritchie needs to answer for knocking out Khaira!
Flames fans: But Khaira was answering for the flying elbow smash to Kylington's head...
Oiler fans: Well, would you look at that... the weather's warming up...

That's the thing...
The Flames are magnitudes better than they were under Ward. And yet, there has been little to no incremental improvement from: Tkachuk, Lindholm, or Gaudreau. And I would argue that Gio/Andersson have struggled and are still adjusting as well.
I think they will all get better. This team still has lots of upside from here.

This is when the baseball schedule sucks.
So much easier to get on a roll and win a bunch of games in a row when you don't have to play the same team again after beating them.
They pulled it off against Montreal, so they can certainly pull it off against Edmonton, but we're not seeing a lot of 5-6 game win streaks this year because of the schedule.
I was hoping for 3-1-0 in this stretch.
Gravy game!

It is tough to sweep several teams in a row, that is for sure. Nonetheless, some of the American teams have crazy records.
And there HAVE been a lot of single-team sweeps - many more than I expected, frankly.

Just looking at the standings, it is actually kind of crazy...
in each of the last 3 years, there has been one team with a .700 record, but so far this year there are 6 teams. Obviously some will drop off, but it appears that the divisional paly is causing a greater disparity in the standings.

Sounds about right for Oiler logic.
Tkachuk has to answer for his reckless hits on Kassian. The code! THE CODE!
After Khaira hit: The code is dumb, he shouldn't have to fight.
After Khaira gets KO'd: Ritchie has to answer for this. The code! THE COOOOOOODE!

Ritchie should have to answer for knocking out Khaira. The only logical choice remaining on the Oilers is #1 D-man Nurse............take the fight Ritchie, take the fight.

I doubt the odds of winning any game are affected by the reason of playing the same team again.
When you flip a coin, the expected result has nothing to do with previous flips.

True, but there is no game film to study and make adjustments from, after the first flip either

Edmonton is a team that doesn’t learn from its losses. Toronto routed Edmonton 3 straight with one goal against in 3 games. 2 shutouts for 2 different backups.

I expect the Flames to play better tonight than they did on Monday. Once they are fully dialed in on the way Sutter expects them to play and they enter the fine tuning stage I think this team will be considered the toughest out in the North.
Right now they are playing extremely well but still shaking off some bad habits. I fully anticipate this team getting better and better over the next couple of weeks. This win would be huge only being 3 back of the Oil with 2 games in hand.
