The mediocrity started before the coaching change.
This was a .500 team for Bill Peters in his second season. Ward didn't screw it up. He didn't help it. But the problems were pre-existing.

I got news for you folks, Sutter isn't going to do jack with this team. This team is going to have to roll over a lot of the roster before Sutter will have anything to work with that will play his game. Can't see this small roster playing the heavy game. If there is one thing that stands out about this lineup its how small they are.

Our vanilla AF blueline definitely makes this team look worse than last year's playoff team. I'd like to see Kylington draw in next game, he brings an element sorely missing.

They’re not even that small...it’s absolutely ridiculous how their game in the offensive zone has deteriorated. They have no concept of how to forecheck properly.

Not just small, but not any more skilled compared to any other bubble or non playoff team.

Yeah, I’m choosing to look at the positive side of the last few months.
In September 2020, we had:
- No number 1 goalie
- The worst head coach in the league
- A structurally broken roster filled with players who can’t win in this league
In March 2021 we have:
- A number 1 goalie
- A high level coach
- A structurally broken roster filled with players who can’t win in this league
...things are getting better!

Even the guys with size are playing small.

Hate to say it but Eric Francis just nailed it there. That’s how far we’ve come. Francis is making sense to me. Gross.

I've said this a bunch of times. This is not a Darryl Sutter team.
I'm loving that Sutter is back, but mostly because I hope it means we're getting a roster he can coach.

Huska made some points about Kylington and his pick decision making. However, I have seen Nesterov and Vali make the odd mistake as well. Sure, Vali has a higher upside. However give Oliver some leash at least.

I think this is an evaluation year for Sutter. Figure out who he wants to keep and get rid of.
I see next year as the "big run" if it happens.

Yet the problems are still here 2 years later. That is the perplexing part.

Let's talk about intellectual honesty. If we're so desperate to win game 26 that we have to play our injury prone goalie (who has never played more than 60 in a regular season), returning from an injury, back-to-back against the worst team in the division, then maybe we just need to throw in the towel.

I actually have a good feeling about this game. I think it will be the opposite of last night. Instead of starting with a bang and going out with a whimper, they will kill it in the 3rd.
I think they expended too much energy early last night and tonight they are conserving it.

You know what this year is? Optimistically, it’ll be like the year that Sakic named Bednar head coach. They absolutely sucked, and got to add Makar. Perhaps a Johnny trade will be our Duchene return?
...I hope.
