We are actually thinking $19 million in salary will be swapped around from both sides in a Eichel deal?
Haha no way Skinner is involved in an Eichel trade unless salary is retained.

Attaching Skinner to Eichel hurts the value so much I don't think it is worth it for the Sabres.

Really wonder what is going on with Skinner....he is a tremendous hockey player and should be right in the thick of his best years.
Instead he is like Neal and completely falling off a cliff for no apparent reason (physically anyhow).
Was the big payday to much to handle? Putting to much pressure on himself?
Weird story.
And yeah....not a team in the league can add 19M to their club without a major major upheaval to roster/chemistry etc. Even at 4.5, the duo would be over 14M a year and too much for almost every club going. Seattle may be an option for next season though. (For Skinner)
I think its fair to assume Eichel will be dealt at some point, maybe even as early as the off-season, but it wont be with Skinner attached.

I would only go as far as acquiring Okposo as a cap dump in acquiring Eichel. If it’s Skinner then that’s a hard pass.
Even then Buffalo would be stupid to attach their worst asset with their best.

2 more years at $6M, for 32 year old Okposo with zero points. Ouch.
That’s all kinds of ugly

Is he dealing with concussion issues again? He seemed to look like he was going to bust earlier due to concussions, but turned it around. Then he signed this contract and... where'd he go?

I can't see Buffalo including a salary dump in the deal. That would hurt the value they are going to get out of Eichel. Why would they limit the return they are likely to get out of this. Frankly, a deal I could see happening would be a 1st line center, a 1st line winger, a top four defenseman, and a pick or two for Eichel and another asset with value. So for the Flames I would think the deal would be Monahan, Lindholm, Hanifin, 2022 1st rounder ($16.175) for Eichel and Ristolanen ($15.4M). I think that is a very high price to pay for the Flames and one they should think long and hard on. That's a tough package for other teams to match IMO and would really make the Sabres better.

Of course it is, but I’d rather acquire him than Skinner. Never thought I’d be able to say that. This is assuming we acquire Eichel, otherwise, I am not in favor of acquiring either for obvious reasons.
We would just have an expensive 4th line

People talk about the 2003 or 2015 drafts being the best of the previous couple of generations. July 1 2016 will absolutely have to go down as the worst free agent spending spree of all time.
Okposo, Brouwer, Ericksson, Lucic, Ladd, Neilson, Backes, Boedker. Even deals like Schlemko, Lovejoy and Colborne look brutal

Marleau with 6M left on one year was worth a first rounder as a salary dump. Using that baseline, Skinner cost equivalent is probably well more than 7 first rounders due to the cap hit. He is a hell of an anchor. To boot he is signed a year longer then Eichel. If the Sabres want to get out from the contract, the only way is tying it to Eichel. It will hurt the return significantly.

You cant give up Monahan AND Lindholm. That would just be shuffling the deck chairs although you get the best deck chair attainable.
What would the top 9 look like?
Gaudreau Eichel Dube
Tkachuk Backlund Mangiapane
Lucic Bennett Leivo
Gross.
Still a massive weakness on the right side, less C depth all while weakening the back end as well.

I agree. The price is too high IMO, but that is what it is going to take to get Eichel or a similar level player. The cost is going to hurt to the point that the team may not want to pursue the trade. I think we have the pieces to make the deal, I just don't think we should make the deal based on the cost. I know people are going to dream up some stupid trade proposals where we send 10 draft picks and five prospects, but you have to ask what the Sabres are going to accept. Lottery tickets isn't getting this done. Teams are going to have to cough up proven quantities and a lot of them. I see this as the model for a deal and what Calgary would have to cough up to get Eichel. If I were GM I wouldn't do it.

I like the idea of Eichel but believe he will cost a lot, either 13+23+ with something coming back (not skinner) or 19+55. I would go the 19+55 root but that is just me, if we are going to pay someone north of 9MM I would prefer it be a C not a W. I understand and agree with people who don’t like 13+23 in the playoffs but you also need to get there which is why 93 doesn’t have the highest value. My trade would be 19+55+93 for Eichel with our top 9 and theirs below;
13/88-Eichel-29
88/13-23-28
17-11-Levio
19-Reinhart-Skinner/Okposo
Hall-Cozens-Olfsson
93-Eakin-Thompson

If any team's fans deserve an Eichel acquisition it's us Flames fans.
After having to watch that useless piece of #### franchise up north fall ass backwards into McDavid because the league changed the lottery percentages due to that same franchises complete and utter uselessness leading to them always drafting 1st overall and hoarding/ruining top prospects.

Referring to players by their numbers is one thing.
But referring to some players by numbers and others by name, even mixing them in a lineup? God this is awful.

I wonder if we could rob Nashville of some interesting assets. I have been high on the idea of trying to snag forsberg, but for salary cap and asset reasons I just think he'll be too expensive to meaningfully add to the current roster.
I think that ownership will allow addition to the current roster for the remainder of the season before judgement is made... Not saying it's the right move all considered, but IMO they are just too into sunk cost at the moment and the mechanics of mid season moves this year make it all too painful.
But two players that might not have huge value yet could add to our roster substantially are Arvidsson and Jarnkrok. To RHS jacknife swedes. Both a little on the smaller end but known tough players.
Derek Ryan + Bennett + 1st 2021 is what I'm offering. Bennett + 1st to make up the biggest value pieces, derek ryan you hope is a good offering to stabilize the bottom of their roster.
