Lucic has been enhanced with nanites no way his aging husk can play that well otherwise.

Ward on defensive pairings and Valimaki on first PP:-wanted to have Andersson focus on his 5 on 5 play, thought it was a big improvement tonight over the past couple of weeks
-also wanted Andersson to focus on simplifying his game, really emphasized that he was better and more simple tonight
-Valimaki has a lot of experience playing on powerplays and he thought he did well
-When a player's 5 on 5 game is going, you often see the powerplay game improve too

Sounds like Andersson may see time again on the powerplay in the short-term. Didn't get the impression this is a full time switch.

Lucic is a smart enough player to realize he's not going to beat anyone with his speed anymore. But his hockey IQ and possession game are elite or very close to.
Reminds me a bit of how Jagr was effective in his very limited time as a Flame. Using his body, protecting the puck and making smart plays.

I’ve been harsh on Ward all season and still hate how passive he has them playing and his bench management at times...
But moving Lindholm to Center has worked brilliantly.

Him and Monahan have 8 and 7 points at 5v5 respectively which places them both in the top 30 among centres.

Having Lindholm, Monahan, Backlund, and Bennett as the 4 centres could be huge in the playoffs, they just need to find a mix that works on RW.

 Tkachuk - Lindholm - ???
 Gaudreau - Monahan - ???
 Mangiapane - Backlund - ???
 Lucic - Bennett - Dube

Up to the coaching staff and GM to find pieces that work to fill those three spots. Whether it’s among Ryan, Leivo, Simon, Gawdin, Phillips, Robinson, etc or by making a trade.

If they can make that work then this team would be able to roll 4 pretty dangerous forward lines at times.

Personally Leivo had worked with Tkachuk and Lindholm in small samples, and I think Ryan would work with Mangiapane and Backlund (id put Gawdin there in the meantime until he’s healthy) but they need to probably trade for somebody to put next to 13-23 though.

I know I am totally jumping the gun, but a guy like Pelletier would look great with Gaudreau and Monahan.

Ward also spoke highly of the reunited line of Bennett between Lucic and Dube, saying they got the comeback started before they got the scoring started with that lengthy, grinding shift in the Canucks end that led to Lucic’s goal. Thought they looked like they did in the bubble.

Cup winners don't usually go 82-0 and win every game 6-0

enjoy a win

Leafs blew a 5-1 lead to the Sens tonight, guess they should just pack it in for the year

Sure, that too. But coaches aren't going to mess with the lines back there for a game or two, and still run all 3 d lines, if the adjusted combos were going to cause more trouble and bigger issues than getting Andersson on track..they'd just let him work it out.
That gives huge credit to Mackey for me.

Shades of Game 7/2004, VAN ties it late with their goalie pulled, the penalty carries into OT and Flames win with a power play goal early in overtime.
EDIT: I see Dino had the same thought.

What do Sam Reinhart, Brent Burns, Evgeni Malkin, Jack Hughes, Nick Suzuki, Jamie Benn, Alex Radulov, William Karlsson, Matt Duchene, Sean Monahan, Nathan MacKinnon, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Jack Eichel, Mika Zibanejad, Alexis Lafreniere, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Taylor Hall, Jonathan Drouin, and James Neal all have in common?
They all have less goals than Milan Lucic.

On Johnny’s shotsThis season he’s averaging 2 shots a game but has a whopping 28.6 shooting percent. Last season he actually shot more at almost 3 per game but with a sub 9% shooting percentage.
But boy it seems like he’s shooting more so perhaps it’s that he’s taking more advantage of grade a chances whereas last season he wasn’t?
