There will almost surely be Congressional hearings and investigations into the whole thing, so I'm sure there will be lots of witness testimony then. I mean, Benghazi alone had investigations by two Senate Select Committees (Intelligence and Homeland Security), five different House Committees (Armed Services, Foreign Affairs, Intelligence, Judiciary, and Oversight and Government Reform), and a House Select Committee that had Hillary Clinton testify for 8 hours.

It’s over. Fell two short of a conviction.

10 actually. Needed 17 Republicans to cross over, only 7 did (Burr, Cassidy, Collins, Murkowski, Romney, Sasse and Toomey).

43 Republican Senators just said that political violence is acceptable.

Cowards, all of them.

Curious if any of them are furiously calling to find out the price of some security details.

Would there not be a silver lining in how this will keep the GOP divided in the next two election cycles?

I sure don't believe Trump was concerned about Pence. When in his entire life has he been concerned about anyone but Donald Trump. Just another in the 30,000+ lies.

minutes after acquitting him.

whenever you think they can't sink any lower, they find a way. Pretty much making a mockery out of the whole democratic process.

Well, Mitch sure is going to be shocked when he sees how Mitch voted.

Deep down are the Dems really concerned that Trump was acquitted? Trump is going to do great damage to the Republican party. The trial was for show.

I think it was also to disenchant sensible Republican voters.

They're not cowards.

They support violence towards liberals. People just don't want to believe it.

57 - 43 were the votes. One side gets more votes...yet loses the vote. I know that's the rules, but still...whomever designed that system is a moron.

A system for removing a democratically elected member of the executive branch by the legislative branch with no recourse to the judicial branch probably should have a much higher threshold than 50%.

Otherwise you would get a scenario where simple majorities in the senate and house would allow you to push the speaker of the house to president.

It's different though. For one, the legislature is always responsible for determining who the Prime Minister is. People elect Members of Parliament and the MPs determine the PM. In the US, the President is voted in directly, so the legislative branch removing that person from office must be reserved for extraordinary situations.

And more importantly, non-confidence generally results in a new election. If the US could impeach with a simple majority in both houses, you could have a situation where a President and Vice President are removed from office right at the beginning of their term and the other party could install the Speaker as President for nearly 4 years with absolutely no recourse until the mid-terms at the earliest.
