As far as I can tell on these boards eatsbread has a pretty big congregation amongst CP and for good reason. He just competes so well. He reminds me of a heeler actually. These dogs herd cattle more than ten times their size and have no fear and the toughness to take a kick from a horse even. This guy vs wpg beats. 6 “7 Logan Stanley at what 5 “ 9?
Mind you it’s not ten times but man this guy has the heart of a lion. When he gave roussel, that dirty bete, a good cross check after their pre face off exchange. So awesome.
I think mangiapane is making button and co look real good. I think we have more of these type gems in the system with peterson and Francis and tuulola still.
But this game was all van in the first after another early pp staggered our energy again. Marky bailed them out for sure a couple time. Then they started getting zone time. They were even doing well I’m the second. Demko acquitted himself pretty Well despite not stopping a boat load of shots. The first and second goal although bounces were the result of direct play as ward said in his post game. That’s good offence. It wasn’t pretty but I will take it. 2 points is two points. But this isn’t a good measuring stick game IMO. Take the points and don’t look back. Do it again and try to do it better on Saturday.
Tanev looked strong.
Valimaki is really something considering this being his first real taste of consistent nhl action. His smarts are apparent all over the ice.
Jonny is confident and playing fast and more shoot oriented. Monny made a slick heads up pass after taking a lazy penalty. Jonny with a Beauty.
Anderson looks a bit lost at times. I think he’s still finding his game but he gives you a solid effort despite this.
Hanifin looks fast and rangy. I think Carolina is gonna have some remorse when Dougie leaves this year and hanifin starts turning into an all star defenceman perennially. Throw in their value added contracts of both him and zebulon. This trade will really look lopsided when hanifin starts getting more confidence offensively. That will come as he gets fills out more and more even. Is he even 24 yet? He becoming more of a physical bully which I really enjoy charting with him. He kinda reminds me of jay bouwmeester a bit with a bit more offensive creativity, more physicality yet less pp time. There are better comparables I’m sure.
Eats bread and lucic and backs all have good tenacity and puck protection. They are developing a lot of chemistry. They look really good. Hopefully they stay together for a while.
Lindholm and tachuck look like they are missing something something. Perhaps the dube absence was the reason. Maybe tachuck is just slow and trying to be to east west When he needs to be more direct or north south.
Vancouver is a bottom feeder with a good top line, Quinn Hughes and demko. Horvat looks like he has lost something this year. Thank his benning runs that team. 10 . 5 for Those two. 15.5 for toffili too. Myers beagle that’s almost 11 per year. What horrible asset management.

Unless the Canucks go at least 3-1 in this four game set with the Flames, they might be basically 'done' before the season hits the 20-game mark. First Tofoli puts the shiv into them, is Markstrom next?

Wow!.....Canucks are being accused of a 'stealth tank' on NHL.com? I could easily see how somebody might conclude that. Walked away from all their UFA's in the offseason; playing awful hockey at both ends of the rink; and will be shedding a lot more salary in the offseason, which for the Canucks could come early.
Has management and ownership basically given up on this season?

A decade served by Tanev with the Canucks and I'd say that was a pretty sh*tty tribute in recognition.
Leivo scored 17 goals for the Canucks, gets in there alongside Markstrom......

Markstrom made it a point to have his back turned and not look at it.
Just lmao canucks management.

The whole tribute video and the way the three players reacted to it pretty much tells you the reason why the team is the way it is right now. Definitely some ill will between the players that left and most likely some by the players still with the Canucks.

I didn't realize they were that close.

From what I have gathered from posts on here he was kind of the Daddy to Quinn and Petey. The Tanevs often had both of them to dinner. That's the kind of leadership it's hard to lose.

Quinn is still waiting for him to return from grabbing a pack of smokes.
Ouch! This one hurts. Love Tanev so much. Seeing him in the Flames jersey just makes me depressed.
If I can’t forgive the regime for letting him go, can’t imagine how Quinn feels. You basically remove all buffer and insulation in his second year and throw him to the wolves.

Happy for Tanev. He’s getting more recognition now that he’s gone than he ever got here.
Hopefully he isn’t better remembered as a Flame when it’s all done but it’s possible.

It really wasn't a bad game from the Flames I thought. Vancouver just really pushed this game, as they know their season is basically on the line for this stretch. Facing a desperate team like Vancouver is - well, that's what that should look like, IMO.
Flames bent, but didn't break, and eventually turned this game around. I predicted in the GDT that it would essentially be over by the end of period one. Everything was going to plan, but that sneaky puck sitting there allowed Vancouver to tie it up.
I would say that the Flames have turned a bit of a corner, even with this game. I thought I saw a better effort out there than in the other games where they got out-shot. Vancouver sucks.. they absolutely do.. but they are still an NHL hockey team, and when teams have to push really hard, they can have a say in the game. Vancouver had their say to start, and Calgary replied and took the game, with a huge game from Markstrom and everyone pitching in to tighten up defensively after the first.
Gio is back to his young and fresh. Love to see it. If he can return to last season's Giordano, this team will have two top line pairings. If he gets onto a bit of a roll here, it can really turn his season around. I wouldn't bet against him.
Mangiapane stood out this game. I thought Tanev was huge in this game. Did I say Markstrom already? Yes I did, but he deserves two shout-outs.
I think that good teams find a way to win ugly games. You don't want to see a game like this end up becoming a few games like this in a row, but a good team will find a way to win an ugly game, and then move on to the next one and do better. As I mentioned, Vancouver was raring to go and pressing for the first half of the game. The Flames were bending, but they never broke, and by the third period they straightened-out. I don't look at this as a 'lack of effort' game by them - this was a huge push by the Canucks who have their backs against the wall.
It will be interesting to see what happens by the next time these two teams meet (in 2 days! lol). Things might have changed a lot for the Canucks with all these 'Fire Benning' chants.
On Saturday, will the Canucks come in defeated and disoriented? Will they come with the same urgency that they displayed tonight? Or will they come totally loose and dangerous, thinking that there is nothing to play for, and therefore nothing to lose? Who cares - Flames will beat them any way they come!

It's funny hearing anybody say Gaudreau was cherry picking.
Look where he is when Monahan gets the puck...
Oh, and I almost forgot...
Hail Satan.
His awareness is so elite that every time the Flames get possession and he breaks, everyone thinks he was already gone.
I just keep chuckling to myself about the Canuck Coup we pulled off. It’s unbelievable. I would be absolutely livid had that gone the other way. To a direct, deep rooted rival. Unreal.

Real swell to see the Flames win this one and now 3 in a row. Started off slow but as always Jesus Markstrom kept them in it. I haven't really been following other goalies around the league and maybe it's just he homer in me, but if Markstrom keeps playing like this Shirley he must get some Vezina votes. Would be some sweet redemption after the pain of the Kipper-less years.
Solid game from the D pairings and of course the sassy pass from Monahan to Johnny for the wicked snipe. Love how he's now picking corners like he did in College. Manginer is a beast. Steal of a pick and excited to see how his career pans out. His motor is non-stop.
LOL @ the 2nd intermission discussion about the rumors of some Canuck players being butt-hurt about the Flames signing up 3 of their UFAs and the players being sad. Obviously BS, but still hilarious to listen to.

Imagine having a Goalie of Markstrom's calibre and letting him walk for free to a division rival.
I'm trying to envision a scenario where the Flames let Kiprusoff walk to a division rival in the middle of his prime after refusing to pay what is now obviously a steal of a contract, after being named the team MVP (yet again) for no return. All for 'cap space'.
I'd be completely livid. Not a coincidence the Canucks are falling back down to earth after their last post-season run. Shades of the '15-16' Flames.
