I wonder how long it'll be before we start hearing about a player or two losing a step permanently from the effects of COVID.

I was actually having some sports therapy work done this morning and the therapist mentioned to me that she treats a member of the Jets during the offseason. She mentioned that he had COVID19 in November, and the Jets were running multitudes of cardiovascular tests on him for the following month because his resting heart rate was in the 90s when when usually ~50. This lasted for over a month after recovery. Crazy to think about how this even affects professional athletes in the picture of health.

Ho Sang is a RHS RW that can be deemed a true reclamation project. Always had the talent but his attitude and commitment to being a pro is holding him back.

You answered your own question. Ho Sang is a head case. Pass.

Ho Sang is a guy you could pick up as a UFA/PTO in pretty short order. Bennett is a far better reclamation project.

VAN is not trading Miller.
And the proposed package wouldn't work, cap-wise.

I can't remember if it was this thread or another, but someone mentioned Brandon Tanev in Pittsburgh. I don't like the $3.5 million AAV until 2025 (he'll be 34 by then), but as a player right now, he is a pretty solid 3rd/4th liner. And he doesn't just slot in there because he isn't good enough to be in the top 6. The guy just personifies what you want from your bottom 6, and he can pot a few goals here and there. He is like a slightly more skilled Yelle.
He is totally the kind of player I could see Treliving going after.

this is really interesting timing as i watched a video on youtube the other night where Don Cherry was saying that Ho-Sang was perhaps more of a talent than McDavid at 15 i believe. Was an interesting video, didnt realize he was such a talent but mentally/attitide not so much.

I am not sure if this was at all discussed on this forum (I am guessing it was, and I must have missed it), but here is an interesting and kind of scary complication of Covid.

Jules Heningburg was sprinting up hills and playing pick-up basketball about a month after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
He was asymptomatic and not contagious. After quarantining and following proper health guidelines, the Premier Lacrosse League player felt fit and ready to return to the field.
His season ended before it began. The 24-year-old Redwoods LC star left the league's bubble in July after doctors said that tests showed he was at high risk for cardiac arrest with high-intensity training.

The concern transcends sports. In a small JAMA Cardiology study, researchers found abnormalities in the hearts of 3 in 4 people who had recently recovered from COVID-19 and "ongoing myocardial inflammation" in more than half.
"We're still learning," said Dr. Matthew Martinez, director of Atlantic Health System Sports Cardiology at Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey. He is the cardiologist for the New York Jets, NBA Players Association and Major League Soccer, as well as a member of the NFL's medical team.
|
3 out of 4 having heart abnormalities is scary. I remember a few months ago a preliminary study showed that about 20% of professional athletes showed myocarditis IIRC, even in asymptomatic cases.
However, some further studies have refuted similar findings, and place the percentage at around 3% (much lower thankfully), but they cited that further studies need to be conducted.
Even at 3%, with all the cases that have been cropping up among NHL players south of the border, there probably will be a few players that will have their season cancelled, and perhaps their careers.
It will probably take a few years for scientists and the medical community to fully understand what the long-term health effects will be, and what the percentages look like for various sub-groups like athletes are.

I suspect you're right about Vancouver not trading Miller.
Are you sure about the cap though? By the time the trade deadline hits I believe the Flames will have saved a considerable amount with having the ability to shuffle Ryan back and forth. Plus, your also sending out 2.55 and bringing in 5.25, difference of 2.7. I don't have the information first hand, but recall Stienberg, I believe, saying after the Flames waived Ryan that the accrued savings would allow them to add an $8M dollar player at the deadline.

Marco Rossi has shut down his season due to complications with Covid and headed home to Austria to recover. Was the Wilds 9OA pick this past draft.

Dreger is clearly talking out of his butt there. Completely fabricated on the spot and it shows.

Would it be enough for Seattle to take Loui Ericksson with a 2nd round pick added as a sweetener in the expansion draft?

I haven't looked at his salary structure, but Seattle does need to (I think) get up to a certain cap level through expansion draft (not including free agency). I believe it is 60%, but could very well be wrong.
So they maybe be compelled to take a few players with high cap hits that actually make low salaries in real dollars if that player has a chance of contributing.

I think more than anything this speaks to the new management change and how abrupt the Rutherford resigning was.
Maybe this is a possibility, unlikely but you never know..
The high quality assets you would get for Crosby or Malkin would be significant.

Nah. He signed back to back long term contracts there to the clubs benefit. The official capacity of their new building was designed to be 18,087. He has a full NMC and I doubt they even ever ask him to waive it. I think he’ll be a rarity who only ever plays for one team.
