I took a look over at HF to see what they were speculating on, Derek Stepan and Phillip Danault.
Friedman speculates Columbus would be a good trading partner for Calgary with their
surplus of wingers and need for another centre now.
Blue Jackets, hmm, David Savard interested Treliving recently right?

Considering the state of the team emotionally, I do wonder if Bennett would just be the catalyst for a bigger trade, involving two roster players.

Depth D and another left shot C/LW? Sure, just toss them on the pile over there...

According to Eklund’s the Flames and Leafs have entered the “second phase” of Bennett negotiations. Pure BS but seems to be a decent amount of Leafs smoke out there with most of the recent articles discussing Toronto’s interest.
I honestly do not see a fit. Dermott, Liligren etc just don’t seem like they fit in over Kylington, Mackey, and Nesterov. Maybe the Leafs dangle their 1st since they feel confident they will be picking late in the first round?

I personally don't see a Toronto connection. I could see the forcing a deal from a Canadian club considering the quarantining issue complicating the need for players to step in right away.
I still think Detroit would provide him the most opportunity.
Also, what about Pittsburgh to get Kapanen out of there even though they just got him? Kapanen has more value obviously but a 2nd and Bennett should get the job done. Calgary gets a second line player and Pittsburgh gets tougher. Seems like a good fit.

I would prefer to send him to an eastern US based team because I do have a feeling every time he plays the Flames it will be a playoff Bennett version we will end facing.
I think the Bruins make a lot of sense either around Ritchie or Kase

If we make a deal with Toronto for Bennett I’m going to be pissed they didn’t do it before for Kapanen.

Flames/Leafs trades always go well. No worries here.

Didn't Kapanen get a 1st rounder in return? Doubt we could have done that if we wanted.

Yeah a guaranteed late one, on its own. Bennett plus a later round would have been great, if they actually liked this player. No guarantees obviously, but in my revisionist mind...
Kerfoot now would make me happy as well.

Yeah, there is no way in my opinion he brings back anything of that level.
He is overpaid for what he brings and there is a good chance that unless he elevates his game substantially between now and the end of the season, the acquiring team may not even qualify him at that price. Any team acquiring him is probably looking at it as a possible 5-6 month rental.
The most I can see us getting for Bennett straight up would be a conditional 3rd rounder that becomes a 2nd if he re-signs.
Plus the team acquiring him would get to send a bottom-six contract back to the Flames.

Could a Maple Leafs trade for Sam Bennett make sense?
Quote:
Treliving would prefer a roster player in return, which explains Larry Brooks’ report that he’s doing some due diligence on the Rangers’ Tony DeAngelo. And we’d have to assume Treliving will be wary of dealing Bennett within the division, lest he come back to bite the Flames (see: Tyler Toffoli versus Vancouver).
(Stray thought: Would Treliving take a chance on Pierre Engvall?)

I can dispel any rumours linking Tony DeAngelo and Sam Bennett via trade. No interest on the Flames part in the $4.8 million defenceman. Flames will take their time on this one.
