But I digress, DeAngelo is a POS and I don't want him on the Flames.
Agreed. I would stay away from him. This is a team already challenged by character.

These are the reports from those closest to the Flames, yes. It comes down to whether you choose to believe them, or you choose to believe a sensationalist hack like Larry Brooks.

One of the Flames biggest weaknesses is generating offense from the back end. Now there is a Dman available for likely pennies on the dollar who put up 0.78 points per game last season.

I guess you have to weigh that level of improvement in an area of need against the toxicity that apparently follows this bag of crap around everywhere he goes.

Or have a coach who recognizes what Valimaki brought last night and give him a much larger role.

the most interesting thing so far are the people who are already trying to rationalize accepting him as a player on the flames.

Think it would be one of those times where you still love your team but hate the player and hope he fails.
and I'd probably hate the GM who thought it would be a good idea to bring the guy in, and want him immediately fired.

I honestly doubt the flames would be so stupid to trade for the guy.

Any 'meltdown' from Salim would be absolutely justified.

I just don't think that we can do that as an organization after getting the whole Peters debacle cleaned up. He SHOULD end up in the KHL - such a waste of talent, there was a clip here of him breaking down plays and he seems really smart in a hockey sense, too bad the rest of him is

I don't give a crap who he votes for.

The bits I've read here and there seem to say that he said something, don't know what, in juniors to get him suspended. Also he got in a fight with a teammate, is there any actual credible information?
As far as I can tell, he:

1. Was disciplined in juniors 8 years ago for violating the harassment/diversity policy. We don't know what he said exactly. His father admitted he made slurs, but defended him, essentially saying it was a "Jersey thing".

2. Political views: Likes Trump, covid denier, bemoans cancel culture, etc...

I don't want this guy on the team, not just for his political views and insensitivity, but for the way he carries himself. He's very Sean Avery like. ADA, like Sean Avery, is a bully, pure and simple. There's a temptation to bring that edge onto the team, but it always has far more negative effects than positive ones.

I will say that, on average, the NHL players are a lot more right wing than people want to admit (Jordan Binnington for example). ADA has no ability to filter himself so he's more outspoken than the others, but I guarantee you there are several players on each NHL team with similar views already.

This would be one heck of a locker room shake up!

I mean.... he's a talented player with weird beliefs. Is that seriously the worst thing?

If he can be told to stay off of Twitter, it could work.

Do we have the right players in the locker room to put him in his place if he continues with bs?

There’s just so many red flags that it’s not really worth it.

I really don't care about his Trump support, or disbelief in the validity of Covid severity.
If fans are talking about leaving this team because we bring in a guy with these issues than good riddance. Bye

Racism and being a ####ty teammate on the other hand are huge red flags.
He used a racial slur as a kid, and was disciplined. That is a black eye on his record - but not a deal breaker. If he is repentant, reformed and can be a good teammate I would welcome him to the Flames.

Getting into a fight with your own goalie doesn't scream good teammate though. Obviously not an isolated incident either going by how the NYR management responded.

You say this like the Rangers didn't try any of that, and the fight with teammates was just a coincidence...

It does go beyond that. He's an unrepentant bully. He was disciplined multiple times in junior, and is now running into the same problems in his adult life. I don't think he's actually a racist; he's probably more on the ultra incentive side of the spectrum. I do think he's a massive jerk. These guys never add more than they take away, and ADA seems incapable of growth.

I say that as someone that believes everyone deserves a second chance. Who knows what the Rangers culture is like.

Lots of people do dumb #### when they're younger. If you bring the guy in, let him know what the expectations are and let him know what will not be tolerated, then I hope it could potentially be a positive situation for both parties.

"weird beliefs" is gentle way to put it- some if it is flat out conspiracy theories.

What about the next time he drops a racial slur?
What about the next time he abuses an official?
What about the next time he he insults a teammate and gets into a locker room fight?

Too many red flags there.

Even if you look at him as just the player and ignore all the baggage he is just okay. Great offensively and a disaster defensively.

He's already had more than a few second chances, it sounds like.

How many teams have given up on him for the behind the scenes trash a few are so anxious to explain away? If he’s such an amazing producer and the behind the scenes things weren’t the issue they very clearly are would be have been waived? Traded a couple times? Obviously he’s a toxic teammate by all accounts. Are we so pathetic and desperate that we are going to try and pretend it’s not an issue because we think we need him? FOH with all that and keep this jackoff away from the Flames.
