Default Possible coup in Myanmar

Sounds like the military has seized several high ranking government officials including the President today

https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...s-ruling-party

Quote:
Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar’s president and other senior ruling party figures have been detained by the military in an early morning raid, a party spokesman said on Monday.
Spokesman Myo Nyunt told Reuters that Suu Kyi, President Win Myint and other leaders had been “taken” early in the morning. “I want to tell our people not to respond rashly and I want them to act according to the law,” he said, adding he also expected to be detained.

Quote:
The move comes after the country’s powerful military raised the spectre of staging a coup as it ramped up demands for an investigation into alleged voter fraud during last year’s election, which was swept by Aung San Suu Kyi’s ruling party.

Isn't Aung San Suu Kyi known for fighting for democracy and human rights? Now she is being accused of fixing her own election?

Not that I'm in favour of military coups, but given her handling (or lack of handling) of the atrocities and slaughter perpetrated against the Rohingya minority, I'm certainly not about to celebrate her as some sort of embattled champion of human rights. This remains one of the most painful reads I can recall.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/11/w...trocities.html

... Of course, I have little doubt that the people carrying out the coup had a hand on those same atrocities, or at least did nothing to prevent them.

She was fighting for democracy and human rights... right up until she became president. Then they suddenly became less attractive...

Historically. Not for a long time in reality. The military running the country is basically what it has been for a while.

the coup must have made a lot of sense when they were planning it 6 or 8 months ago, Trump would get re-elected and he wouldnt care as long as they booked a couple of good looking hookers into the Trump Washington hotel for him with a suitcase of money, no way Biden would win

Pretty neat video by a girl recording her dance competition as the coup started.

PE Teacher video taping her dance workout routine may have caught the coup under-way (in that you see some vehicles drive by) in the background of her video.
Can't find the original video on YouTube, but this shows it

She of course is now turning into a meme being placed in front of other event.s

I dunno if people are following this but people that have been protesting this coup are now being murdered by the new (fairly hostile) Myanmar government. 91 people yesterday and over 300 people estimated... brutal.
