That's the intriguing thing about sports... things can change on a dime and you never know when it'll happen or what the catalyst will be. I believe we have a pretty good team here, and it's just a matter of them getting on the same page and playing for 60 minutes every night.

For better or for worse, I believe this team will show us its true colours over these next 15-20 games. Hang in there.
The Blues also fired Mike Yeo and promoted Craig Berube. So one might argue that in your examples, the catalyst is always the same thing. That makes it somewhat laughable to me when that thing is dismissed as irrelevant.

[Re: Monahan:] A subpar center with a great shot?
Funny. I look at Juolevi's career stats:

7 games played. 1 goal. 0 assists. 1 point.

And regarding the last trolling comment, I look at his face off % of above 50 for the last 6 years (including this one), the fact that since he's been in the league, only 14 players have scored more goals than him, only 7 of whom are centres, he has 7-straight 22+ goal seasons, and since he's been drafted, only 30 players have more points than him.

I don't think that is subpar, but maybe that's just me...

Oh no, Juolevi's bad! Moving on.

Okay, so it was troll-like, but I've made my opinions on Monahan pretty clear in the past. While many were on the "Trade Gaudreau" Bandwagon, I've always been team "trade Monahan!". I think he's less important than Gaudreau as far as making things happen offensively and because NHL gms have hard-ons for big centers, he'd net you more. At the end of the day, Monahan is a defensive black hole and a shooter as a center. He's never going to drive play on his own, he needs someone to do the leg work for him. As a winger, I'd think Monahan was the bees-knees but as a center... you can easily make a case for there being nine centers better than him in his division, one of whom is on his team. So he's the 10th best center in the North Division? Depending how you rate what Montreal has, 11th or 12th?

Like, not even trying to be a dick-head. Any Flames rebuild starts with moving Monahan out for a king's ransom.

He's not wrong here.

Gaudreau playing with an actual elite center would probably move this team in the right direction.

Monahan's a poor mans first line center. He's good. He's just not great.

Give Gaudreau a Monahan-esque winger and a defensively responsible two way center a la Patrice Bergeron or Ryan O'Reilly (they grow on trees, you know) and sit back and relax.

I hope it's not like this all season, but Giordano looks tired.

He looks like he's exhausted out there every shift and is moving like it.

This season is going to slip away from the Flames very quickly if something doesn't change in the next couple weeks. Faster than previous years due to the short season.

Same song and dance for the Flames unfortunately.

Vancouver Toronto Winnipeg and Edmonton all have 2 centers that are arguably better than Monahan. But Toronto and Edmonton clearly are the top 2 teams at centers. Where has it got then and what are they paying these guys? Double what Monahan makes.

Dubois for Monahan was a rumor but most were saying it may cost us a first ti get it done. Imagine how upset we would be if that trade happened and this team struggled without our first. Realistically what does Monahan bring in a trade. Its not like we just offer him for MacKinnon and it gets done. We trade him and how will we get this #1 center? Doesn't make sense to me. I'd rather add a top 6 winger and see if this team can get in done. If not fine rebuild. Just don't think Monahan is the next move

Same as last year, to my eyes. (which is to say, yeah he looks slow, and broken)

Imagine where we might be if Baertschi, Poirier, Klimchuk, Janko and Bennett turned out?

I think you're right. Gio appears to have lost a step.

Ward should tell every player that if they play bad they have to do a 1 hour interview with Eric Francis. If that doesn't motivate them, nothing will.

They have had success following closed door meetings before. Let's hope this trend continues.

I agree to an extent about the sentiments regarding Monahan. I like him, but perhaps he's not the ideal guy to center Gaudreau. The ideal situation would be the aquisition of a C who is fast, and can drive play, while playing a half-decent defensive game. Problem is, are there any top Centers that might be available any time soon? I can't think of any.....
