Elias Petterson fined for slashing Monahan
NHL Player Safety @NHLPlayerSafety
Vancouver’s Elias Pettersson has been fined $3,987.07, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Slashing Calgary’s Sean Monahan.

That was a dirty play.
He was frustrated that he sucked for two games and I think Monahan knew that so he harassed him into a penalty.
Monahan is a smart player despite Flames fans hatred.

it was an ugly slash that could have been a LOT worse if he'd connected higher.
Monahan did snap his head back, but I think it was reflex from being hit up high - a protection thing like "oh sh** am I hurt? No? I'm OK"
I also honestly think it was out of character for Petterson - doesn't seem like a hacker. Vented his frustration and it looked like he was sort of shocked/remorseful after the event that he did that. Bet he remembers (fine or no fine) and cleans it up a bit.

What a goon. There was a full second between when he slashed Monahan and apologized to him. Now that the guy has a record throw the book at him next time before he kills someone.

3k isn’t a big enough fine imo. Should be a little higher. As someone else mentioned, it was as if he was only fined for that shift.

Was this play really worthy of a harsher punishment? I’m just happy they acknowledged it at all. And your opinion doesn’t matter, this is a long established CBA total. Nothing is changing here, especially not for a basically nothing play (dumb and potentially dangerous).
