He could walk into the press room, which is in the building he lives and works, and he'd have the attention of hundreds of millions of people on the technology known as television.

Twitter gave him enormous leway, but speech that includes incitement of violence is not in bounds on free speech and a private platform, with clear terms of service is under no obligation to allow behaviour that violates it. It is not a public utility, just because it is popular. It is an iron clad guarantee it will only get worse and people will die.

Shouldn’t you have to be a named terrorist organization before ISPs take action? It does bring up a whole discussion of how right wing terrorism organizations aren’t labeled as terrorists but I’m not sure ISPs/Facebook/Apple/Google should be the ones with the authority to declare who is and isn’t a terrorist.

Does anyone think that a new Trump-branded platform (Social Media, cable TV) will be a success? Remember Trump Steaks, Airlines, Vodka, University, etc.?

There might be a market for Trumpaholics Anonymous.

Unfortunately, yes, it probably will. He easily has more than 50M fanatics globally who would register out of adoration, and then consider how many more would register just to watch (and report on) the train wreck.

Gotta wonder how they haven’t invoked the 25th yet or introduced articles of impeachment . The guy is deemed unfit to be trusted issuing social media, how on earth is he fit to hold office?

I for one welcome this ####### having reduced mindshare. Sick of this post truth nonsense

Trumps new social media platform will be the same as everything else he does. It’s a scam, a grift, a pyramid scheme etc. Once he’s squeezed every last drop from his cult, he’ll cut ties and quit.

Anyone honestly think he’s gonna create something of value?

Spotify found it worthwhile to pay Joe Rogan $100 million to sign his podcast, and some consider that a dramatic underpayment. How much would just a Trump podcast be worth? Him doing some sort of regular subscription broadcast and going on tour with rallies would likely be by far his most successful legitimate business venture ever.

The 25th needs an approval from VP Pence and so far he hasn't said he would.

It's possible to make that happen, it'll take some logistic luck to get to the right place but all you have to do is commit a crime in NY and hope you get locked up in the same place

A: That's a really low bar to clear.
B: I'm not sure Trump has that kind of drawing power longterm. I mean I'm sure he has some but eventually god willing Donald Trump will be old news.

The difference is for the last few months news shows have been live fact checking him or just cutting away from him if he starts getting to ridiculous.

I mean, I may have the opportunity to do this. I'll start a GoFundMe for those who want to contribute.

Trump isn't going to create his own Twitter or TV network, we know he's terrible at actually building anything. He'll just license his name to Parler or Newsmax/OANN, which is how he's made most of his money anyway. I mean we see the losers he surrounds himself with, doing Trump Twitter from scratch is costly and likely to end poorly. Much easier to just slap your name on something someone else did (and of course it's remarkably on brand for Trump).

I also think, with Rush Limbaugh all but dead, that Trump is the natural successor there and that's an easy job for Trump. Ramble and engage with his cult for three hours a day, golf and #### porn skanks the rest of the day, make $75 million a year. He doesn't even have to leave Mar-A-Lago to do it.

Yes, just like they did with telecom. Created the baby Bells. Each doing the exact same thing based on territory: Southwest Bell, PacBell, NYNEX, Bell Atlantic, Ameritech, US West etc.

It absolutely is alarming that big tech is so powerful. Even if you think banning bad people and apps is good today, how can it not be obvious that such power ALWAYS leads to abuse.
