The scary thing about this is that while there are clueless buffoons along for the ride who don’t know what’s going on. There were also some of these guys who were super well prepared and obviously planning something more devious. Some of these guys wearing body armour and prepared to face bullets. Some of them in the Senate with dozens of zip ties (handcuff style), who pretty clearly planned on taking hostages and doing who knows what to those poor people.

I think that’s kind of lost in all of this. It wasn’t purely just a mob of stupidity; some of these guys were devious and prepared. They failed, but it’s terrifying to think what could have happened.

True.

That is why I think it can be argued that law enforcement did both a great job and a terrible job. Terrible because they were ill prepared and downright negligent when it came to crowd control.

But they seemed to root out the worst parts and prevented what could have been a monumental disaster.

You have to think though, some of those people were so close to blowing stuff up, burning things down, and mass murders; if they somehow get away, it's only a matter of time until they find another target.

There was a lot of video of people actively looking for Senators and Representatives, and only some of them were able to be isolated. Lethal force should definitely be on the table when people are trying to get to governmental figures. If a mob was able to get a couple senators hostage, then that's a pretty severe crisis.

Default Capitol Police officer on life support after pro-Trump riot, union official says

I may have missed this being posted, but: https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/07/polit...iot/index.html

Quote:
Papathanasiou told WUSA -- a local Washington, DC, television news station -- that the officer died. Later Thursday, the Capitol Police released a statement stating no officers had died as a result of Wednesday's riot.
Papathanasiou retracted his statement to WUSA and told CNN the officer was still on life support.
"He had a stroke. I think he's on life support. We've got some misinformation on that. He's on life support from what I'm hearing," Papathanasiou told CNN.
Other online paper sources are reporting he was hit in the head with a fire extinguisher. https://nypost.com/2021/01/07/us-cap...fter-dc-riots/

Reading reddit I know take it with a grain of salt but apparently the cause of death for the other 3 people not including the cop were," One woman was shot, one fell off a wall and I suppose cracked his skull, and another tased himself and had a heart attack. The last one I think was trampled." If thats true.... seriously wtf people

About the woman who was shot and killed I have some questions for the people saying she deserved it:

So people are saying it's not surprising she was shot but how many people entered the Capitol? Hundreds? Thousands? And only one shot by the security?

So all the hundreds/thousands of people should have been shot? Just mowed down? Is that what you are advocating? Because if the one woman deserved to die then they all did.
And if that had happened you'd be totally OK with it?

She didn't deserve to die in the sense that people are glad she died but yeah no one is surprised she died and frankly people are surprised more didn't get shot because they stormed a government building to overthrow the government

Dion, can you please stop posting old info that has been posted before in this thread? If you don't want to read everything, that's fine. But stop posting stuff that is just new to you.

Who goes to overthrow a government without any weapons? This is America afterall. And Republican party supporters. These people definitely have guns at home. But I didn't hear any reports of them carrying weapons. These people are fools playing revolution who have been scammed by Trump and the media echo chambers they follow. They never should have been able to enter the Capitol. The police failed bigtime.

From what I understand she was shot trying to go over a barricade after the glass in the door to the house floor was broken. Cops were on the other side, guns drawn, and there was still house members and people in area they were trying to break into so I don't know if they had any choice at that point.

Just my opinion, but morally nobody really deserves death. But there is such a thing as through your own actions creating a situation where another person is morally justified in killing you, and reading the accounts of her death I think her death falls into that latter category.
