The cabinet has the leverage here, they should be able to coax a resignation out in exchange for some pardons. Removing him, while obviously necessary, would likely lead to more violence, so a resignation should be the goal.

Obama:
Quote:

"History will rightly remember today's violence at the Capitol, incited by a sitting president who has continued to baselessly lie about the outcome of a lawful election, as a moment of great dishonor and shame for our nation. But we'd be kidding ourselves if we treated it as a total surprise,"

"Right now, Republican leaders have a choice made clear in the desecrated chambers of democracy," Obama, a Democrat, said. "They can continue down this road and keep stoking the raging fires. Or they can choose reality and take the first steps toward extinguishing the flames. They can choose America."

Bush:
Quote:

"I am appalled by the reckless behavior of some political leaders since the election and by the lack of respect shown today for our institutions, our traditions, and our law enforcement. The violent assault on the Capitol -- and disruption of a Constitutionally-mandated meeting of Congress -- was undertaken by people whose passions have been inflamed by falsehoods and false hopes," he added.

Clinton:

Quote:
"an unprecedented assault on our Capitol, our Constitution, and our country.""The assault was fueled by more than four years of poison politics spreading deliberate misinformation, sowing distrust in our system, and pitting Americans against one another. The match was lit by Donald Trump and his most ardent enablers, including many in Congress, to overturn the results of an election he lost," Clinton charged.
"The election was free, the count was fair, the result is final. We must complete the peaceful transfer of power our Constitution mandates."

The other thing that really gets me about the pro-Trump callers is how many said that they were angry because they aren't being listened to.

Do they even watch the news? Everything has been about them. There have been over 60 judicial hearing because of what they are saying. Everyone listened to the bat#### crazy conspiracy theories and gave them more relevance than they deserved.

Some of them even claimed their cause was like the civil rights movements in the 60s.

Honestly, these people are so far gone there is never going to be any reasoning with them.

I'm watching the Senate on C-SPAN. Hawley sounded like a psychopath but Sen. Tammy Duckworth's speech was imo, great. She actually got a round of applause.

Never invoked the ignore button option but I may make an exception for that guy. Stupid post is stupid.

Its fine to be pro-trump if thats your position, but making jab remarks that suggest that this borderline domestic terrorism behavior is anything but abhorrent and unacceptable is next level.

It doesn't even matter. Anyone from the public can buy communication devices like that. Some of the terrorists even had police riot shields and gas masks. You can buy assault weapons, I don't see why it surprised people that you can buy non-lethal things.

Plus, they have ones now that are wireless and virtually invisible. It someone was working covertly, that is what they would be using. Not big white coiled wire ones.

Hawley has quite clearly decided he's running in 2024 as the Trump successor. Too bad for him there's gonna be crazier people with more MAGA cred.

We know there's a good number on the board. And I'm sure they're not all bad apples nor identify with the MAGA protest crowd, but I would question their morals and overall perception of reality if they are still on his bandwagon after the last two months, yes.

Waht we are seeing is absolutely abhorrent, certainly terrorism, seemingly treasonous, undemocratic, and counter-productive to anyone's goals.

I'm happy to make the clear.

However, I think that divisiveness is basically a universal quality in the United States at this point, but everyone just does this:

I'm also unhappy that people rationalize violence as a tool to reach their political goals. Today's events aren't a shocking isolated incident, they are part of a progression of escalations.
