Coups are a carefully planned conspiracy carried out by military officers to seize all the levers of power of a state.

This isn’t a coup. It’s a deranged narcissist unleashing his moronic social media followers to cause mayhem.

I'm just not under the delusion that one side has a monopoly on divisiveness.

You seem to believe, that the US is divided into two sides, with one side being the Good Guys, and one side being the Bad Guys. This viewpoint is, itself, divisive. If that is the case, then the only logical conclusion is national scale conflict and/or the US dividing itself up along ideological lines.

Perhaps that is the inevitable outcome here...I'm not convinced otherwise.

Honestly, if he voted for Trump once, he is a little dull. If he voted for him again after Charlotteville and the event this past summer, he has some ideologies best kept to himself if you want to maintain a friendship.

You’re right that it’s not a coup. But that sounds like terrorism to me.

I've always wondered - when there are big protests in Washington, where do all these people stay? Is there enough hotel rooms for tens of thousands of people?

While I would agree this isn't a coup per se, it's mostly due to incompetence and not a lack of trying. Trump did just try and pressure an elected official to rig the results for him after all.

You have to understand the density of the east coast. DC is super close to a lot of areas and major cities. It's one of the big reasons I loved living in the area.

Oh, Trump would absolutely like it to be a coup. He has, in his own flailing and incompetent way, attempted to effect one behind the scenes by pressuring people to overturn an election that wasn't even terribly close, in the end. But a mob of people randomly installing themselves in offices in the Capitol with no actual endgame other than "we'll stay here until we get bored or they remove us" doesn't really qualify as an attempt to overthrow the duly installed government and replace it with another.

Things like this will continue until social media is regulated... and i mean it needs a systematic change in algorithms. it’s the biggest security threat and fuels fringe groups into big balls of hate that live in false realities.
