Since the Vezina is voted on by the GMs, there are much fewer players receiving a vote than the other awards. Also, they only get 3 votes rather than the 5 that the other awards get.
5 of the 30 NHL GMs who voted this year considered Markstrom to be one of the 3 best goalies in the league (16.7%).
Price did not receive a single vote. Obviously, neither did Smith or Kostinem.

I love that one voter gave Ethan Bear a third place vote for the Calder. Does Staples get a vote?

Almost as bad, it was Jim Matheson from the Edmonton Journal.
Darren Haynes gave Bear at 5th place vote for the Calder.
You can see how every member of the PHWA voted for each of the awards here: https://www.thephwa.com/2020/09/22/2...hwa-members-2/

Yeah, but the Oilers radio broadcast are just as bad when it comes to the homerism. Actually there is only one radio play by play guy worse than Edmonton's and that is Mishkin spaz that calls Tampa Bay games on the radio. That guy is just a straight up idiot!!

I usually only watch Oiler games when they play Calgary and I listen to the Calgary radio feed via tune-in on my smart speaker if the Oilers PBP are working the game. There's usually a lag in the audio feed since I stream it, so I have to pause the video on the television for a few seconds. It's never perfect, but it's better than listening to the Oilers broadcast.

I think you guys are crazy. If tbe choice is between tbe Oilers PBP crew and the Flames radio crew I am choosing the former every time. Not because they are any good, but mostly because they are god-damned hilarious (also, the SN960 guys are not great).

You obviously can't take anything away from the guy offensively, but someone up there actually thought he was the BEST defensive forward of the year?! Ok.
|
thats odd, i always thought it was RNH that was the great defensive forward and best 2 way player in the league. Hard to keep track.

Was looking through a box of my old hockey cards and my dad must have put an NHL Yearbook magazine in there. The page it opened to first had this little write up. 1994.

Probably looked over at Staples' shameless blogs over the off season. That's enough to make any man re-evaluate their level of competence as a professional.
But yeah I was frankly surprised he wasn't pushing the angle that Koskinen was as good as Markstrom because of his regular season SV% and they didn't miss out. That was the general oiler response when they lost the bidding war.
Amazed that he noted he is older, was subpar for them in the play-in round and can't handle a starters workload.
I also totally thought Smith was turning 40.
Kudos to spector for his honest assessment. I fully expect to retract said kudos in short order.

Didn't even mention 3rd stringer Forsberg being a future multiple Vezina winner. Impressive.

What's going on with the Oilers, Twitter has a lot of fans really angry at McDavid, something about him throwing a house party.

Apparently the provincial Covid health rules don’t apply to the McDavid family as they posted a picture of the whole family celebrating Christmas together. Then they also got together with Draisatl and his girlfriend under the same roof the same evening. It’s one thing to be idiots and break the rules. Just takes it to a whole new level of stupidity to then post the pictures on Twitter!!
