Mony and Mangiapane for PLD. Columbus acquired Domi to play 2nd line center because they are weak down the middle. No chance they trade PLD without receiving at least a 1b center back. Backlund doesn’t get it done , no matter what you add.

other than Tkachuk, Andersson and Valimaki, I'd be just find with any other player/prospect being the center piece of a deal to get a center like PLD. The only question is if the required combination/# of assets it takes to get the deal done make the acquisition cost too much.
Gaudreau or Monahan +
or Hanafin ++
I'd be fine with either, even if the + were to include mangiapane.

That's insane. From both sides. There is no way CBJ gets that kind of value, and there is no way they are adding +$12 m in cap.

with a NTC, trading backlund at this stage isn't realistic either.

According to CapFriendly this clause kicks in "starting 2020-21." So, has this already been activated, or is it first triggered at the start of training camp or the regular season?

In terms of value of centres: does anyone know of a site that lists raw numbers for controlled zone entries/exits (and other 'micro' metrics)?
Who on CGY, by position, is best at and does it most frequently, at carrying the puck in and taking it out of defensive zone. I want centres who do that really well plus all the in offensive zone good stuff: corsi, counting stats.
The question is what other skills do we want at key positions. Like who is great at carrying the puck through the neutral zone? Who is better at off puck stuff (getting open in high danger areas to get shots off).
I think teams appraise players by breaking down what precisely is needed in terms of ability to excel at different positions. Not just goals, assists and FO%

Monahan + Hanifin as the basis for Dubois sounds like the makings of a solid trade for both teams. Just need to dot the i s.

Yeah, this is all good stuff that I am sure every team wants. But I think that the numbers for the Flames would not provide an entirely accurate picture of how Calgary's centres rank, basically because Gaudreau is the player on the top line who carries the puck through the neutral zone, and I don't think this is because Monahan is somehow incapable of doing it just as well. I just tend to think that they have been playing together for so long that Monahan's instinct is to defer to Gaudreau most often, even in situations where he doesn't need to, or shouldn't. This is a big part of why I have long been an advocate of separating the two.

I’d separate them on to different teams personally. This team could really use a different look up front.

Was just typing up a post and saw a notification a 2 year deal got done. This is like the few hours where the Gallagher deal was falling apart just to have it signed less than a day later

I’d give up both in a heartbeat. I think some ppl are overvaluing our guys quite a bit. Tkachuk is the only player I wouldn’t trade for PLD... maaaybe Valimaki. I think I would do that tbh.

Did LeBrun's tweet really deserve this sort of snide response? He delivered information he had on hand a few hours ago ("rumblings from a few teams around the League that Dubois may be looking for a change of scenery"), that he also qualified ("Maybe wishful thinking on their part"). I don't understand why some people expect that reporters should know everything about every situation.

Because in 2 hours it was resolved.
Also sorry you considered it snide. Not everyone sees things the same way I suppose.

I agree. Monahan probably can do this but he defers (as do others since Gaudreau is best at handling the puck.
But I think ideally you want that puck carrier to be in the middle of the ice and not near the walls. If its coming up the flank teams have already eliminated one direction for the puck carrier to go. Gaudreau then has only so many options compared to if the puck was coming up the middle.
CGY needs Monahan to develop this if he is to be a 200ft center imo.

Younger PLD? Give me a break these guys are 6 months apart and are from the same draft class. In a flat cap world the cost certainty of Tkachuk for the next 2 years is more valuable than an unsigned player.
End of the day Tkachuk certainly has more value than PLD and really it is not that close to me.
