LOL. Based on 1 game, you have decided he sucks. Bold. Either you are the greatest talent evaluator that ever lived, or a fool.
1) He made TC FFS, in a year where the available depth was much stronger than usual.
2) There are a ton of reasons why a player has a bad game: his whole line generated nothing for instance - I wasn't impressed with Suzuki's play either; he might have the flu or something; or - more likely - it just wasn't his best game.
How about we base our opinions on the development and talent level of our prospects on more than one 2-week long tournament? (never mind a single game from that tournament).

It could work but the women's system also has a made up 5th to 8th tournament for the QF losers to create more games. So if you're Switzerland, you would crush the 5 games in your group and then most likely lose to the #2 seed. Then you'd have to play in this makeshift 5th to 8th tournament. Not sure that would work in the world juniors because this year, you might have a generational player when in other years you might not.

I think it has to be noted that Germany playing down 6 players due to covid accounts for a lot that happened.
They had a graphic with how many junior players and rinks they have going now. The game is growing and they will be better. They may not be far from being a more stable pool A team.

And those are just the groups based on it historically. You can change it each year.
If Switzerland finishes 3rd and the Czechs finish 7th then the following year the Swiss are in group A and the Czechs are in group B.
It would be a much more compelling tournament in the structure I proposed. Every game is more competitive and means more. Even the announcers last night were talking about how Germany’s game against Canada didn’t really matter and all that matters are the games against Switzerland and Slovakia.
It was an anomaly for Germany last night but games like last night happen every single year, and every single year it’s the same argument that somehow getting embarrassed is good for these countries. I just think there is a better solution right there.

Maybe we should have a buddy system, like when the grade 8s show the kindergarteners a thing or two.

Despite opponents...did Wolf achieve a shutout last night after taking over the previous game from the USA #1 goalie...and all we can talk about is whether or not Zary is a bust based on 10 minutes of ice time where he is a year younger than most others?
Crazy times...my take...it would be a neat story if Wolf takes over for Knight and leads the US to the finals. No guarantees with goalies...but learning to win and battle through the competition is a hard to teach skill. It's only 1.5 games...but could be an interesting side story...

I thought Zary was ok given his limited ice time. I didn't like his two attempted shots from sharp angles, but he had good energy on his other shifts. His lack of points in a blowout win is over-blown imo. He wasn't on a "scoring" line. His role was to kill penalties, provide energy, etc. and I thought he did a decent job of that. By contrast, both Holloway and Byfield only had 1 assist each while their linemates had multi-point games.
I really liked Pelletier's game. He also looks like a keeper.

Only one of those was a shot. On the second one Zary was pretty clearly attempting a centering pass to the streaking forward cruising into the crease. I thought it was a smart play to generate a scoring chance.

I decide players suck as my default position. Then they have from that moment on to change my mind.
I consider myself an Elite evaluator of the Human Condition.

why are we discussing this. It's one game game against the worst opponent the team will face. Zary played well in the exhibition and camp games against good opponents.

Yeah, they really have nothing to be embarrassed about. Everyone knows the situation they are in. Germany might not be a hockey power house, but they generally have a reputation for not being a pushover either. When people read about this game in the future, the story should definitely start with the German team being depleted due to COVID.
Interestingly, Germany is currently ranked 7th in the world by the IIHF, right in between USA and Switzerland. There is a pretty big drop off after number 6, but Germany is currently recognized as the best of the rest you could say.

If Zary and Pelletier don't combine for at least 2 points in the next 16-2 blowout, Treliving should immediately ghost them.
At least Holloway had an impressive secondary assist.

Pretty sure they gave up after the first period. Probably decided to conserve energy for their other games. They looked decent against Finland.
