Staples will declare it the best eva free agent signing. The rest of us will shrug our shoulders and feel happy that the Oilers have a guy that can refill the press box machine for 29 other teams in the NHL, but the Oilers will have him as a top pairing guy.

I actually think there’s some untapped potential here, but you gotta wonder why he’s bounced around.

They just signed him so he could explain how CHI completely dismantled them in the playoffs playins.

I agree. I think it is obvious the new management in Edmonton is a lot smarter than the old management. They have made some savvy signings this offseason.

Be that as it may, as long as McAvi decides not to contribute defensively, I see no reason why it won’t be business as usual

97 points in 64 games and minus 6.

Describes most of their free agent signings.

So no Bear this year I guess huh.

It would be something if Bear got an offer sheet.

They've still got 1.1 million left on their cap, so they should be able to sign him to a 1 year show me.

Their pain is definitely hitting next year with 11 players under contract and a 51 million dollar cap hit, and its doubtful that the cap is going to go up at all with a shortened season with no fans in the stands.

A team can offer up to 1.395 and Oilers get no compensation. A one year 1.3 would put the screws to them.

Bear is looking for a lot more than $1.1m, he lead all rookie defenceman in ice time and despite anchoring Bakersfield's PP he saw little PP time in Edmonton but was among rookie defensemen leaders in even strength points.

There isn’t really concern with Bear. They can juggle around with Klefbom out for the year. Puckpedia goes through it here.

Will Staples even know? Seems he's pivoted to carrying water for Kenney and the UCP at the moment.

Interesting that he is toying with the idea of putting Neal on waivers and sending him to the minors to make room.

Imagine the whining that would come from that malcontent if that happened?

Lmao no it won’t. I’m guessing Bear on a 3 year deal at 2.5.

Money well spent for a bottom-pairing defenseman who epitomizes the term, "barely average."

That's a not great contract for a rookie whose value was inflated as a result of being overplayed.

Is that after waiving Neal and eating his salary for years to come?

Have fun with that.
