Why so eager for this?
Who else would be exposed you would be worried about losing that makes you want Bennett picked so badly?

Why would another team help us out? Also why would Bennett or any other player help the team out just to expose themselves to going to Seattle?
I’m not saying it is not possible just saying it is unlikely and therefore we as fans should prepare ourselves for loosing someone who already fits the exposure guidelines. As of right now that is Mangiapanie or Backlund.

We could simply sign a player that meets the requirements, much like we did with Tom McCollum before the Vegas expansion draft.

Nothing against Gio, but he's the obvious choice to expose. He has been a great captain following Iggy, but he's not the future. He's the past. I would love for him to stay on and win it with the Flames, but if that's going to happen it needs young stars to step up, one of whom will be taken if Gio isn't exposed.
If he does get exposed and taken, I'll be looking pretty hard at a Gio Kraken jersey. They would instantly be another team to cheer for.

But Gio's 37, Backlunds 31. Gio's best years are behind him and Backlund still has a lot left to give. He's more valuable to us at this point. Certainly not the kind of value you'd let go for free.

I don’t know how much longer Backlund will be full value for 5.35M?
Flames have lots of big cap decisions in 2 years. Tkachuk, Gaudreau, Mangipane, Gio are all up. Flames likely will see Gio take a huge pay cut but not sure that is enough for the raises those other 3 would require. I know Johnny might not be part of that picture but if Backlunds contract is removed I think the Flames have a lot more cap flexibility going forward due to the length on his deal.
