Default My apologies to all members of this forum

I posted an image in the cool and funny picture thread that was in poor taste and was removed by the mods. I didn't realise until later that it was racist and and offensive to Chinese people. Learn Chinese in 5 minutes.

I am not a racist person and I make no excuses for my actions and wish to apologise for my actions.

Good on you for the acknowledgement.

It's amazing how ALL of us have various prejudices that we have a very hard time in self-identifying but others can see/hear. It could be racism, agism, sexism, religious, income related, standards for self/others, opinions, etc... and often we learn them as we grow up by exposure, culture, "conspiracy theory", social group(s), sport group(s), or going down some internet rabbit hole(s).

IMO everyone makes mistakes and has lapses in judgment. The far more important measure of a person is how one reacts to those mistakes or lapses.

Dion is the lovable old man of the forum. You never know what you're going to get, but always best to take it in stride if it seems a little offside.

Nice of you to apologize Dion, but I can't pick out anyone on this forum who seems as good-natured and hate-free as you do. I am as sure as can be that you meant nothing by it, whatever it was (I didn't see it), and I'm sure most other posters would think the same.

I didn't even see it and I can tell you I'm offended

Edit: Dion is a real hero for providing context for me to look it up. I laughed but I get why admins have to remove stuff like this.

I see you as a kind, caring person, and as far from a racist as anyone could be.

I am honored to have you as a friend.

Dion is a good man. We all can make mistakes, and a good man owns up to it.

I read this in the voice of Johnny Cash, sung to the guitar chords of a country western song.

A year or two back I learned that the term 'mammy' has a pretty racist history. I had no idea. I thought it was just another generic name like meemaw that some people used to describe relatives.

We all make mistakes.

I hear 'mammy' and think of that part in the song 'Thrift Shop' where he's hunting in the Goodwill for a pair of ladies flannel pajamas. There's no frame of reference for someone born and raised in Canada to recognize that as anything other than a sort of nasally, whiny form of 'mommy'.

I struggle to remember that those dick head proud boys have coopted the 'ok' hand sign, when I see a nice classic car and I'm driving the other way I naturally go to it to show my appreciation of a decent Healey or Alfa, the really annoying thing is the sign has nothing to do with racism but the numpties are too stupid to understand their own symbolism

It's not just the proud boys why you might be getting a bad reaction:
