Watched it again. Really like Ahsoka’s viciousness to really showcase she’s not a Jedi. And something I feel they take from the animated version is her propensity to take a big two handed swipe. I do wish when they showed her running it was quite a bit faster, would have helped a lot IMO.

My problem with that is that it could be an easy recon as soon as it becomes advantageous to have an old Ahsoka. She would only be 80? by then.

We need to have her passing written/shown. Maybe 79ish Ahsoka loses to the knights of Ren or in an arena against a Gundark or Rancor or a quietly in her sleep. Until then I feel it's too easy to bring her back.

One of the things that I did like was how grounded it was.

Theres a handful of bad guys and only 2 'good guys.' They're not out there blowing up Death Stars or whatever other Imperial Superweapons are hanging about.

She isnt just casually strolling into the city heaving bad guys into the walls with the Force or shooting lighting out of her fingers, etc. They didnt have to over-do it with power levels. These two have to fight and not against absurd odds relative to their supposed abilities.

Thats really been the key part of the aesthetic of this show for me.

I mean, the super-fanboys might be upset that one of the most powerful Jedi around didnt just easily obliterate some old lady with a stick, but I like that. It keeps you grounded.

And another thing, a few pages back I was a little pissed about them introducing Ashoka because I know nothing about her from the cartoons and I was worried that Star Wars would fall into its notorious pitfall of requiring its viewers to be familiar with all of the ancillary material for anything to make sense.

Star Wars is notorious for this and it drives me nuts.

However, this show, at least in this episode, very successfully and intelligently dodged that bullet. I dont need to know anything else about her for everything to make sense and for the story in the current episode to continue and move forward.

They made her an effective character instantly. Perfect. And if some of the fans got more out of that than I did then fill your boots, but I thought it was perfect. I have no qualms against fan-service as long as it doesnt come at the detriment to the ultimate goal and adds to the product rather than becomes distracting.

I also like that the Mando doesnt know much about the Force. Lets keep that mysticism where it belongs!

Amazing episode. These guys can keep up the great work!

Yeah I don't disagree, just in the other versions, it seems like she moves quicker based one her natural agility vs force powers. Like her species is just faster. It's a small gripe. It was my favorite episode for sure. I do hope we see her again and think we will.

Animated movements simply don't translate well to real life.

We can always chalk it up to her getting slower with age.

I can't get over how well the mist and Saber ignition worked for her stealth attack scene. But what a cool fighting style overall. Definitely more viscious than your typical by the book Jedi.

I mean it's clearly a result of the intentionally jerky animation style used in TCW. It's not just her, a lot of characters in that show "feel" really quick as a result.

I liked this a lot too,

Theres always the narrative the JarJar ruined the prequels. But I think the basic founding myth of Star Wars, is that of lone warriors with the mystical gifts of precognition, telekinesis, and telepathy riding into town and saving the day against exceptional circumstance. We've seen every one of these things repeatedly stomped on and violated. There is no reason the Jedi need to have super human speed or essentially be a branch of the government, there is no reason they needed to be ubiquitous to the point that seemingly everyone in the galaxy knew who they where and what are the trappings of a jedi. Small example but Qui Gon should have should have offered himself as a great warrior knight to Anakin, and Anakin should have accused the jedi of be a myth. Instead we got the exact opposite where its just expected and normal that a mythic hero is going to stroll into town and save the day, violating every tenant of epic world building.

Mando isn't an epic it's a spaghetti western and doing a much better, without completely violating the basic tenants of its genre. Lone rider trots into town looking for someone, makes a friend, helps his friend solve a problem, moseys out of town continuing his search. My only criticism is that they have been very slow in expanding upon the thing Mando is looking for, in the overall story arc.

Its funny because people not knowing about the Force or Jedi isn't that hard to believe. I mean its a galaxy with trillions of people and thousands of worlds, and I'd argue that there were lots of worlds that hadn't been touched by he Jedi in generations.

I'd think that the inner rim probably had more view of the Jedi, and I doubt that it was overwhelmingly positive as the Republic slid into corruption. I mean you have these elitist space wizards living in luxury in their religious smugness and solving disputes with violence and laser swords. They were also directly attached to the senate, so lots of people probably saw them like the secret police. There were worlds in Canon that were devastating by the Jedi judgements against them.

On top of that throughout the Clone Wars Palpatine was undermining the Jedi at every turn. Blaming failures on the Jedi and Jedi deaths on the Senate that they served. then in the end, he found a way to blame the whole war on the Jedi who were attempting to over throw democracy and replace it with a theocracy guided by the Force, something that billions didn't understand or were effected by.

The Jedi went from benevolent protectors, to Military leaders to traitors that attacked an old supreme chancellor in a bid for power.

Then Palpatine banned any teaching except the negative, and eventually people through fear stopped talking about the Jedi.

So yeah, I like the idea that the majority of the galaxy didn't know about the Jedi or the Force, and the ones people that did approached it with mistrust or hatred, except for a bunch of out of touch teenage rebels pining for the illusion that the Old Republic was a democracy built to serve the people and wanted to bring it back with all of its corruption.

There's a reason why the remaining Jedi didn't hide in the inner ring and hid in the outer rim. Because in the outer rim nobody paid attention, in the inner rim, they'd turn a Jedi in in a second.

But guys like Mando, or Solo didn't have a understanding of the Force, and an understanding of the Jedi. Because they were in the outer rim. Where life was different.

as a non Clone Wars/Rebels viewer, I will still gladly eat up any Jedi action they throw my way. I enjoyed it because it met the high bar this show has consistently set for itself...but it wasn't my favorite for one simple reason: no tension.

even if you know nothing about the Jedi, within the first 5 minutes they establish that Ahsoka cannot be harmed by mere soldiers with blasters. then when she talks to the Magistrate and says she’ll be back tomorrow, Kyle Reese boasts that they’ll be ready next time. I was like, hmm I wonder what they’ve got up their sleeve, a rancor? a bunch of droidekas? a rancor with droidekas in its mouth so that when it roars it shoots droidekas at you? or maybe the Magistrate has a secret dark side bodyguard, or knows a bit of Force-fu herself.

nope, apparently the plan was just to throw more useless soldiers at Ahskoa, but this time have them split up down narrow city corridors to completely negate their numeric advantage. boy they’re sure lucky a random Mandalorian in full beskar just happened to land right there that day, cause at least it meant that first strategy could be plan B.

when Mando and Ahsoka meet, again no tension because you know that as soon as he gets a chance to blurt out “Bo-Katan!”, the skirmish is over. so now you have a laser sword warrior with precognition, superhuman speed/agility/reflexes and telekinesis, teamed up with an elite bounty hunter that is literally bulletproof going against a collection of grunts with poor aim, and two useless HK droids. plus they left Grogu back at the ship so they cannot even be threatened by him being in danger.

and yes I know that they were going for the samurai + high noon showdowns at the end, but both those encounters only lasted as long as they did because they allowed it. If they just wanted to win and leave asap, Ahsoka would pull the beskar spear out of the Magistrate’s hands, then choke her and/or dunk her into the pond; Mando would causally walk up to Kyle Reese as his blaster shots uselessly deflect off his indestructible armor, the toughest decision being which of the 15 lethal weapons on his suit is next in the rotation.

anyhow, the important thing for this episode was further expanding the Mandalorian’s involvement with galactic affairs and serving as connective tissue with other Star Wars works. it succeeds, but hopefully they’ll continue to find inventive ways of challenging these guys, because at their superhero levels, playing the game on easy mode isn’t going to entertain for long.

I’m no Star Wars expert, but it’s obvies that the Jedi on the mountain will be obiwan. He has a new show coming and that’s the segue way to that new series.

Disney+ has to keep subscribers, so it’s a way to have a number of series going one at a time while the others film the new seasons.

Edit: sorry was trying for sarcasm.

Obi-Wan's time line is way in the past and doesn't line up at all.

One possibility floating around the internet speculation machine is Ezra Bridger.

I like the speculation of Ezra Bridgers but doubt it because it would kill the question of Sabine and Ahsoka if he just popped up.

Especially since he's still lost later when they meet up.

It'll be Snoke

I know you're kidding but done right this would be an interesting angle... some how make the character move valid than the throw away he was.

Knowing Filoni's talent for delivering multiple nerd-gasms with this show, my guess is it'll be Luke, either using a de-aged Mark Hamill or maybe even a younger actor in the role since it would most likely just be a brief cameo.

Tython sounded a lot like Ahch-To as they explained it in terms of an abandoned Jedi temple.

Kind of made me think that it was going to be Luke, and The Child being brought there is how Luke discovers that lost Jedi Temple to start with.

But if Ezra does reach out to Gorgu, perhaps it will bring Sabine, Ahsoka, Ezra all together to face Thrawn in the new series?
