[GT] US election - It's 2020, what could possibly go wrong?

Nothing will convince Fryar and many others here in Sundown - including the town’s mayor, another Patriots member - that Democrat Joe Biden won the Nov. 3 presidential election fairly. They believe Trump’s stream of election-fraud allegations and say they’re preparing for the possibility of a “civil war” with the American political left.


“If President Trump comes out and says: ‘Guys, I have irrefutable proof of fraud, the courts won’t listen, and I’m now calling on Americans to take up arms,’ we would go,” said Fryar, wearing a button-down shirt, pressed slacks and a paisley tie during a recent interview at his office.


The unshakable trust in Trump in this town of about 1,400 residents reflects a national phenomenon among many Republicans, despite the absence of evidence in a barrage of post-election lawsuits by the president and his allies. About half of Republicans polled by Reuters/Ipsos said Trump “rightfully won” the election but had it stolen from him in systemic fraud favoring Biden, according to a survey conducted between Nov. 13 and 17. Just 29% of Republicans said Biden rightfully won. Other polls since the election have reported that an even higher proportion - up to 80% - of Republicans trust Trump’s baseless fraud narrative.

Hopefully these folks turn out to be as lazy as they are gullible.

I suspect the numbers are mostly tied to O&G. Just look at Keystone, it was one of, if not the first time, tiny hands grabbed a crayon and scribbled his name on an executive order to get it started while Biden wants to stop it. Just on the surface of that I can see a lot of people wanting him as they think he’s better for the oil industry. They are simply ignoring all the other baggage associated with Agent Orange as they care most about jobs. It’s a bit of a Maslow hierarchy of needs thing.

I’m sure there are people in Chilliwack who are Trump supporters too.

It shouldn't be any surprise to see conservative people wanting a more conservative US government.

To me the newsworthy part of the story is how many people are willing to believe the election was fraudulent.

People will go along with anything if it gets their side on power.
Canadians aren't as different here as we like to think.

How did he win nearly 3 percent of the vote without even a campaign website? Did he live in Miami at all?

As WPLG reported, Rodriguez’s candidacy also bears striking similarities to that of Celso D. Alfonso, another no-party Florida state Senate candidate.

Both men were registered as Republicans in 2018, and both qualified for this year’s election on the same day, with hand-delivered checks time-stamped within minutes of one another, according to the Herald. Their listed email addresses are nearly identical, too.

I can't recommend deleting Facebook enough. I can honestly say that I have not regretted deleting my account even once since I did it in 2008. There is nothing good on Facebook. Even the best parts are only okay.

I got rid of it just over 6 months ago now.

Yeah I am leaning that way, the on hurdle is I have family and friends all over the world and that allows me to see their lives progress.

As for now, not hanging it in my phone has made a big difference.

Facebook is more good than bad for me. Depends how you use it. There are some good groups I am a part of.

Twitter is worse for me in terms of displaying things that make me angry.

Apparently Trump's attempt to bribe or bully the Michigan GOP was all for naught. Thankfully it sounds like these guys will do the right thing and certify the results.

In a joint statement after the White House meeting, the Michigan lawmakers said allegations of fraud should be investigation, but indicated they were unmoved by Trump’s claims thus far.

“We have not yet been made aware of any information that would change the outcome of the election in Michigan and as legislative leaders, we will follow the law and follow the normal process regarding Michigan’s electors, just as we have said throughout this election.”

“The candidates who win the most votes win elections and Michigan’s electoral votes,” they added.

Trump’s effort to set aside the Michigan vote was sure to fail. Experts on Michigan election law said the Michigan Board of State Canvassers’ authority was limited in scope.

“Their duties are to receive the canvass and certify the canvass, that’s it,” said John Pirich, a former assistant attorney general who teaches at Michigan State University Law School. “They have absolutely no power to investigate allegations, theories or any half-brained kind of arguments that are being thrown around.”

The Michigan Legislature would be called on to select electors if Trump succeeded in convincing the board not to certify the results.

Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer could seek a court order forcing board members to certify the election and could remove those who refused, said Steve Liedel, another election attorney.

“Michigan’s certification process should be a deliberate process free from threats and intimidation. Allegations of fraudulent behavior should be taken seriously, thoroughly investigated, and if proven, prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Agreed.

I only know one person who actively uses Facebook, and a couple others that use for their business or to follow businesses.

It blows my mind there are people that use fb for news.

Facebook is the new Aol. When I meet somebody who says “I saw this on Facebook” I think of a person still using a dial up modem and inserting a cd-rom into their pc.
