I tried a Blasty modification in photoshop a couple years back where i eliminated the mouth and the snot, and extended the flame between the eyes into a mane along the lines of the Flaming C pattern. I'll see if I can look it up, but the end lesson i think was it pretty much has to be side on if you're going to use the classic flame pattern (as you suggest). Might give that a go if I can find the time later today.

Hey. I talked to Ryan Popowich yesterday after the news broke. The best bits from our conversation can be found in this article:

Bright side, it sounds like these jerseys will have a very limited shelf life and any future Blasty designs are likely to be more adventurous. Let's hope so.

I mean, the obvious route is just making the '03-'07 home jersey the third, which I think will happen once they feel comfortable ditching King's favorite flag abomination (I think Popowich might have even said as much in one of Scorp's other articles?). The reprobates gets their horse, they keep the black C with nice striping and the only jersey that can hold it's own with the retros takes it's place in the rotation.
But they've got to make the money from the others first before they cash in doing that.

The Athletic did their Reverse Retro Jersey Power Rankings asking their staff to rank each jersey from 1-10 taking the average in;
https://theathletic.com/2201951/2020...ower-rankings/
Flames Blasty jersey ranked 8th so they are definitely onto something with this look given it's popularity with people that don't have any attachments to the organization as a fan.

Agreed, good read.My takeaways that this will be a jersey used twice a year and it's something of a trial balloon for the Flames and everyone else to generate some buzz. But these jerseys will be gone in 2 seasons being worn a handful of times. It won't go for 7 seasons and be the primary jersey at any point, which was the big issue I had with Blasty. The jersey situations with all leagues are now are changing over the way it used to be, and limited runs for designs are doable, as much as the market will bear them. NBA teams have 4 or 5 jerseys, and some of those 4 or 5 last one season.
I would think the next new third jersey will have Blasty but be a bit more ambitious in design. But that's something to be worn 10 to 15 times a year. Dark grey but to keep a black C, have it outlined in white?Blasty on the shoulders or maybe that logo is sublimated into the jersey itself? All sorts of options.
As mentioned, there will either a third jersey program from Adidas or another specialty program in the upcoming years, similar to this program.
My guess for the Flames jersey plan:
20/21
Red retro home
White retro Away
Black C Flag jersey Third
Blasty RR
21/22
Same as above
22/23
Home and away stay the same
New third jersey to replace the old Black C. Likely dark. Dark grey with Black C and Blasty on it? Maybe the 2004 to 07 jersey simply, but hope they may push the design a bit more.
No more Blasty, A new Adidas program theme.
24/25 as Flames go into new arena
New design home and away. Red and white, no black.
Retro red kept as retro
3rd (dark/dark grey) carried over
2nd season using a jersey for handful of games of new Adidas program
25/26
Etc

^Seeing the white on the pedestal pants really just hammers home that the jersey should have had a corresponding white stripe to me...

Totally agree with this. Limited edition annual 4th jerseys is a great way to move merchandise, and allows fans - who obviously have very different tastes - to buy new jerseys some years but not others.
This is how soccer does it and it's awesome, as some years the jersey is amazing, other years it sucks, but every year is unique and allows fans to tell what era it's from. I can't count how many comments I've gotten on my 94 Glasgow Rangers jersey over the years.
Plus, jerseys take on a more collectible value, and you're not saddled with one you dislike for years on end (unless, in the NHL's case, you hate the primaries, but at least there'd be an alternative for you).

Thinking of ordering one. Since it's a 4th jersey, might as well get a 4th liner. Lucic, lace 'em up, you're in

I like hearing that they want to update the black C 3rd jersey. Removing the vertical stripes and the flags would clean it up, and make it a great jersey

For sure. I know a lot are hard against black but that design still has so much potential.

Fwiw, the Flames have never even done up a grey concept jersey. I have asked specifically about that in the past.

Is that because it's from the last time they won the league?
