I've discussed this with Ryan Popowich a lot... something we both really love about the 04 jerseys is that they all conformed to a template. The uniforms themselves looked uniform against each other — it was super cohesive and consistent.
That Blasty concept would enable the same sort of consistency with the updated retro branding. Incorporating the same striping would be a really cool nod to the past while also keeping things in step with the new template.

If they do a black horse head jersey matching the new striping I'll gladly buy one as soon as they are available.

For what was posted above, may need some thin white lines between red and yellow stripes. As it is it looks off or unfinished.
Also thinking that maybe Blasty doesn't get the full color treatment if it's the main logo. Instead, a white or yellow outlined with the negative space of the black jersey behind it.
Edit: like this. Or maybe not.

This makes me wonder what a red version of this with the black C as the main logo. Black, yellow, black stripes. Horsehead as shoulder logo. Would make a nice third to replace our current third and tie the whole set together with uniform striping.

So far all that's confirmed is:
Jersey will be black with red and yellow
Numbers will be white
Horsehead is somewhere on it
1998 is where their inspiration comes from

Palette swap red for black on pedestals with horsehead shoulder patches and white/yellow numbers and logo? (Hasty MS Paint edit):

Really hope the new jersey is going to be black instead of red. It feels pretty boring to have yet another red variant. I want to add a black jersey to my collection instead of yet another red one.

I wouldn't worry. It's basically confirmed to be a black jersey, likely either a pedestal or Blasty base given the 1998 clue.

I agree that in a perfect world the home, away, and third jersey would all follow a consistent template and are consistent with one another, especially if a 4th jersey is an option to be a bit more unique year to year.
However the one thing now is even our home and away set have slightly different template / striping, so even that’s not really an option right now.

I like the black horse head concept posted above. I think if you had numbers and ditched the shoulder logos and left it blank it’d be better though.

Blasty will be on the jersey! I think that's for certain. Either way we will find out soon Nov 16 is what I heard.

I want a black pedestal though. Or just the original Blasty.

Red C, White C, or Black C with Red/White/Yellow outline?
Stole a template from a more talented person and whipped up crappy mocks of the three possibilities.
Red C
White C
Black C (I think this one is actually my favourite)

My personal guess would be red C since it was on the original Blasty uniforms but I would love to see the white C with yellow and black outlines from the red pedestal jerseys make a comeback.
I think I read (maybe on here?) that the Flames design team hates that C though, so I doubt it.

I really dislike that C, but I’ve never really been sure as to why.

I was the one who reported that the Flames' design team doesn't like that C. At least, that's what I was told.

I was hoping more for the Nobel Laureate, to be honest.
In all seriousness, someone was unsure about it, and it was my report... I have the transcribed quote around here somewhere. I never actually published that bit in any article.
Edit: here's the full quote on that C from Popowich.
Quote:
"The one thing that we don't like about the pedestals, internally, that we talk about all the time, is the "C" — 'cause we did the black outline on the white, which makes it looks kind of weird. Like, we've never liked that logo. And the funniest thing is that logo still appears on the pants, if you look. It's really weird, it's like a really oddity [sic] that we have in terms of our branding. It's the only place we use this logo. It shouldn't exist anymore, but we, because the logistics, we ordered them on the pants and then they've always kept them, the equipment guys are just like, 'they refuse to change it,' so, it should be changed, but, yeah, anyways, it's sort of an inside joke for us."
|
So yeah, I wouldn't expect to see that logo popping up anywhere anytime soon.

Btw. Something else that's kinda exciting. Coming early next week, I have another in-depth interview scheduled with Popowich (and I might be able to get another member of the Flames' marketing team...we'll see) to discuss the reverse retros, possible future fourth jersey themes, how the new fourths will be deployed (and for how long), and plans for a new third jersey in the future.
If that's the sort of thing that might interest you, fire some more questions my way if you have them and I'll see if I can get 'em answered. Hopefully we can all learn some more new things.
